With the removal of mage healing (not complaing mind you), and the addition of barrier, I have to wonder how comprehensive the AI is going to be. I honestly hope I won't have to micro-manage my mage(i.e. manual spam barrier) to keep my tank alive, as I plan to roll a sword and board warrior first. Thoughts?

Gameplay vids show that mages seem to know to use barrier a lot, especially when a party member is in trouble. Setting up your tactics should make it possible to not have to micromanage.

Your tank isn't going to need barrier to stay alive, especially if your rolling sword and board. Also, you can put barrier as your mage's highest priority spell in the tactics menu.

As mentioned before, there are no tactics as we know them in DAI.
EDIT - As per your request: http://forum.bioware...ears-confirmed/
Choices seem to be rely on the default AI or prepare to micro-manage whether you want to (which i do sometimes) or not (which I do sometimes as well).

Short version:
It's 24 pages of people asking where the old advanced tactics from DAO and DA2 are, worried that they've been removed.
Handful of trolls with the 'so what, doesn't effect the way I play' attitude.
And utter silence from BW.
About half way through the thread people started accepting the fact that if advanced tactics were included in DAI a dev would have stepped in and calmed us down, and that the silence from BW is their confirmation that it's gone.

In the prologue video from this morning, Mike Laidlaw said that followers will look for and take advantage of things like combos (Shatter, etc.). Provided you've given them the appropriate abilities and allowed them to use them. Cassandra definitely shattered a guy that Solas had frozen on her own (outside of tac cam).
