The Scholar or the Huntress?

I just started playing this game today, and I chose the Scholar, but I'm having trouble getting viands/secrets/trophies and authority/bags of royals? Perhaps the Huntress would be a better choice, as she is probably better with hunts?
Also, is it better to pick advisors, lovers, etc. that give you bonuses to your weaker skills or your stronger skills? For example, using a counselor to supplement the Scholar's scholarship (which is already decent) or his derring do (which is lousy)?

a scholar should get someone to boost derring do and woodwise as soon as possible since hunting is a must.

I really like the Scholar, I found the bonuses helpful in filling up the council and dealing with regular cards. Once you figure out what you can do it's easy to get your Prosperity, Freedom and Dignity up to 100 and buy whatever you still need. (trophy, viand, secret)
I've held off on doing the hunting minigame until I increased several different stats, and that seems to be going smooth as well now. Took down a wyvern yesterday, that netted some nice trophies.

I dunno, maybe it's even easier with the Scholar, but as a Huntress, you do not have problems with filling up the meters to 100 and then converting that into Viands/Trophies either.

Also, will advisors, lovers, etc. leave once you choose them, or are you stuck with them unless you choose someone else?

Thanks! I think getting companions to boost weaknesses sounds like a good idea. However, from the people I have encountered, it looks like only The Silent Hunter boosts Wood-wise and The Cheery Baron (not a fan) boosts Derring do. Is there anyone else that boosts those? I don't know if I can get the Baron as a companion, as he will only give me his favor if my Freedom is below 10, and I have never had it anywhere near that low.
Also, will advisors, lovers, etc. leave once you choose them, or are you stuck with them unless you choose someone else?
Choosing The Silent Hunter as your bodyguard increases your Derring-Do, not your Woods-Wise. And why would your counsellor/accomplice etc. leave once you choose them ? The whole point is to make them stay so they can give you those useful +20 stats. You can replace them if you want, but it's a huge waste of resources in my opinion.

Oops. I mixed up the Silent Hunter's stats. And I had no idea of knowing whether or not the counselor, etc., could leave once you selected them (like companions in the Dragon Age games could), which is why I asked. I've only been playing since yesterday, and the guide/FAQ doesn't answer everything. ![]()

If you're still early in the game my advice would be to focus on filling up all 4 positions first, as the stats boost will make challenges a lot easier. Also keep in mind that you can only make the Abbess your lover after you've made her your Counsellor.

I have enjoyed my time with the Scholar, even if my Derring-Do victories have been hard won. Take my advice though, stay away from tournaments unless you are the Huntress because it just won't end well for you as the Scholar most of the time. Save your health for Hunts or easy to modest Derring-Do challenges to lower Peril.
A starting Scholarship of 50 makes most such challenges easy, thus making the bonus given by the Abbess (as either a Counselor or a Lover) a tad bit of overkill. This is unfortunate because she appears to be the only other choice to become a Lover besides the male Bard (being gay as a Scholar is actually quite optimal - and far cheaper). I wish the Dashing Outlaw was a possible Lover because her bonus to cunning would be sorely appreciated (perhaps she is but I don't know).

The best way to gain the three macguiffen items for the divine is by boosting your prosperity/dignity/freedom up to 100, and then cashing them in with the Prepare for the Divine card. It drops that particular stat down to 50 and takes 25 clues, but it's significantly more efficient than going on hunts. I have 4 Market Days left and I've got 22 secrets, 10 trophies, and 6 viands. You'll also gain a bunch of secrets via the quests you get from the Market Day cards.
As far as counselors are concerned, getting them early is a priority as the stat boosts are extremely helpful. If they need Bags of Royals, then you can get bags by going to the Gather Resources card and spend 30 Prosperity and 3 actions to get 2-4 bags. There are also a few events that give bags of royals. Additionally, don't be afraid to just summon the companion you want to your court, Authority is easy enough to come by. All of the companions also have nice stat boosts avaliable, though the best boosts are only avaliable with a Favor. Spend excess clues on them often.

I chose the Scholar. A shame we can't mix this up with our World states. I'd like to try the Huntress once the Scholar is done, see if she is any different.

Authority is easiest to get through Morigan's cards I've found. I can't remember the exact thing, but I think asking her about her family or going into the applewood are the biggies...
there's also when you get made fun of, though it costs freedom.
I find that in order of operations:
Easiest to get:
Prosperity
Dignity
Freedom

What's the best way to gain authority? I'm having little luck in that department.
Have the silent hunter destroy your enemies. There also should be an option to sit in court or something which gives you authority if your dignity is high.

How did you get so many secrets? I'm only getting them during market day events and freedom seems to be the most difficult stat to raise.
