Go ahead and discuss the other options if you like. I don't bring them up because I'm not particularly interested in keeping Kallen happy. It's just not my problem. It's Bio's problem if they think there are enough Kallens to matter.

Past discussions of this topic have shown that there are quite a few interested parties who would prefer fade-to-black.

As for balancing the concerns, it looks to me like including nudity means that you've got a small set of people with a relatively large utility loss, and a larger set of people with a relatively small utility gain. Presumably Bio concluded that the gains outweighed the losses. (This outcome works best for me since I'm on the gaining side.) Assume different numbers and you get a different balance, but I don't see any principled way to assign those numbers. Alternatively, Bio could have just concluded that this question could not be answered rationally, and therefore decided to just make the game the way they wanted to without particularly worrying about whether a few people wouldn't like it.

As for utility gains / losses, I think a pretty strong case could be made to challenge the value of having sex scenes at all. Those animated sex scenes influence gender and race gating of the romances, and is one of the reasons players are restricted to a single, specific body model per race/gender instead of having more customization options.

Also you don't have to romance anyone, so no romance! no nudity! Problem solved!   B)

Even if you do, just press the skip button, problem solved.

I doubt that romance scenes are entirely responsible for a lack of diverse body builds.  It'd be a tall order to go through all the permutations and get eye levels adjusted, make it so the characters are an appropriate distance apart, etc... with or without them

Not really, unless Bioware is willing to have underaged sex approved in their games. Josephine was just becoming a teenager when Leliana ran to Lothering.

Under-aged by what standard?

Modern (prudish) US standard of 18?

This game is not set in current day US. It's setting is much more medieval Europe. And in that setting, they were often married with children well before their 18th.

Nevermind the fact that BW has already 'approved' it. Nothing shown, of course, but there's plenty of hints for plenty of characters backstories of 'hanky panky' going on before they would have been 'of age' (By modern US law).

I don't think so, either, but it may be a contributing factor. Eye levels aren't that hard to work around, most other scenes can be done without characters needing to actually touch each other - and as I understand it, the biggest challenges in animation have to do with characters touching anything.

I love the CC options in Dragon's Dogma, and that game also provides a ton of different armor / clothing options. They don't have any sex scenes, and the cutscenes are pretty minimal - which is probably why Capcom is able to do that and Bioware doesn't.

Let's all pretend that teens don't have sex, and that they will be more likely to have sex after playing this game because Bioware makes this game specifically for them.

Underaged as in Josephine is not even a teenager if it happened before Leliana left to Lothering.

First, you said she's just a teenager, while now you said she's pre-pubescent which is it? Either ways, we don't know for sure, and the relationship could have happened during their teens.

We don't even know how old Josephine is. I doubt she's more than a few years younger than Leliana.

Depending on when her birthday is compared to when Leliana left she would either be 12 or 13.

Yes we do. Her writer Sylvia told us her age range in the Josephine thread. She is in her late twenties in DAI.

Leliana meanwhile in in her late thirties or early forties in DAI.

Josephine wasn't a child during Origins Kallen, was likely late teens or early 20's

Seesh...People need to stop being so prudish. The Greco-Romans had it right; they saw the human body as a natural work of art. Then the Medieval era came about, and the Abrahamic religions literally immolated the classical point of view. At least the Romantic era was a nice recrudescence, before the stuffed shirts who were the Victorians… *sigh*

I praise Bioware for depicting nudity in Dragon Age, it is a vast improvement over the DA:O and 2 underwear-that looked as though it was grafted into peoples' skin. lol

The Greeks had attitudes towards sexuality that we define as criminal nowadays, as did the Romans.  During the later part of the Empire was when these sexual mores that we can identify with first started appearing, such as taboos against public nudity and promiscuity.

Furthermore, the stereotype of the Middle Ages being prudish and sexually repressive is almost entirely fiction, read Chaucer for a good example.

DA:I is only 10 years after DA:O, meaning that if Josephine is in her late 20s in DA:I, she was in her late teens in DA:O.

No, DAI is in at least 9:42 since Last Flight which takes place from 9:41-9:42 and has no mention of the Inquisition in it. So it is at least 12 years after Origins. So that puts her in her mid teens during Origins.

But this is offtopic.

Considering how the devs said that DA:I takes place 10 years after the events in DA:O, I'll go with what they say.

Also, isn't what you were arguing about off-topic too?  Pretty sure this thread isn't about whether or not Josephine was 'of age' in DA:O.
