This isn't real life.
I fail to see how that's relevant.
If you can handle nudity in rule life, it should stand to reason you can handle it in a video game.

Depends on the reasoning, If the issue is purely to have nudity vs not having it, then yeah they can't be reconciled.
But if there's a reason why people think there should be nudity, then there's something to discuss.
Do people think it adds maturity to the game? -No it does not add Maturity to the game. Mature people don't need nudity to play a game. But I like romances to have some sort of realisim and perfectly fine with nudity being in the game, after all book covers, magazines, and movies all have it(not all but most). So why shouldn't video games if they are for adults.
An expression of closeness between the characters? - As stated above it does make a game relationship feel more real in my opinion.
Realism and immersion? - See above
vs why people don't want nudity:
Does it make people uncomfortable? - It will no doubt make people feel uncomfortable, my wife for instance will find it unconfortable, But she either just skips the scene or looks away.
Fear that it won't be handled tastefully? - I don't really need to see a penis and vagina up close and in the act. As I said earlier I have other ways of getting that. But if there is going to be a sex scene it should be handled right. It should be awkward, It should be legit, like around 5-10 mins, and end with the female not being satisfied. Possibly with a sandwich being made afterwords....jk
Concern that it will be used for shock value? - Considering what kids have access to now thanks to the internet I highly doubt any child from the ages of 10-17 will be "shocked" by something.
With reasons, we can find alternatives that satisfy what both sides need. - You can never satisfy both sides. You either have nudity or you don't. If you don't you shouldn't have sex scenes at all(ME 3 and ME1 did it right though but even my son knows what was going on). No one needs to see the guy thrusting or the girl getting it in the back door, but female and male bits being shown...not that big of a deal.

Again, you can have it make sense without showing it. Heck, even the illusion of nudity would work. To use the Cassandra shot as an example, have her laying on her side or belly on the side of the Inquisitor and have the camera panned high enough that one sees only the two's heads and shoulders. You would know that they aren't wearing clothes without needing to see anything.
Yes they could've done that but they didn't this time. I thought that Liara & femsheps sex scenes in ME1 and 3 were tastefully done and very sweet, however ME3 suffered from magical underwear during the post sex scene, which is grating and ruined the moment for me.
Why put your bra back on just after sex and then stay in bed? Seriously, anyone who knows the relief of taking your bra off after work will tell you that you don't wear it in bed unless you drank too much and past out on the bed fully clothed.
Frankly I grow tired of all the careful camera angles and other rigmarole that video games, T.V. & films go through just not to show a part of the human body.
While I can understand a person being uncomfortable around nudity, I also think that game developers should be able to experiment with their own format and BioWare have always done the fade to black, careful camera angles thing so it's time for a change.
Everyone of course has their own preferences and I'd be the first person to say that nudity for the sake of nudity is annoying, immature and generally one sided, but nudity can fit a scene if it's given the right context.
I'm very interested to see how BioWare handles romance in DA:I since it seems to be quite different to their previous games.
How would the fade to black when there is nudity work when there are conversations you have to reply to that involve it, though?
That's easy.
Voice over (and subtitles) and dialogue wheel on the black screen.
I fail to see how that's relevant.

I do not know you well enough to share how it is different since it is very personal, so sadly you will not get the answers you want.

That's fair enough.
I'm apologize, but I'm just trying to understand your perspective. Sadly, I don't think I ever will.
Game nudity is apparently too scary despite the scenes being skippable :|
Honestly, I think it might have more to do with game designers having to actively do all the designing for it. But then, nudity in paintings is called 'art', so I'm not 100% sure about that..... ![]()
I usually don't comment, but I have been reading most of this discussion, and think it is silly. What difference does it make whether there are romance (sex) scenes, or nudity, or blood and guts, or that the Inquisitor has a green hand rather than purple? It is up to the individual buying the game to determine whether or not they will like the content or not. Don't like nudity or sex scenes? Don't buy the game! It is as simple as that. To have these long discussions (which are fine by me if you like) trying to push your opinions (feelings, like, dislikes) on others is dumb.
I gave an alternative, but nobody even replied.

Cover the screen with your hands until you see the dialogue wheel.
This strikes me as a little overblown. I don't think there's anyone in the thread for whom this sort of thing would be a dealbreaker. The question is whether they'd like the game slightly less or not.
Considering how many people have cancelled their preorders just because certain characters weren't romanceable/were only available to certain genders/races or because of certain characters from previous games appearing/not appearing, it wouldn't be surprising if nudity in DA:I was a dealbreaker for people too. As for this thread.... idk. If they are here, they haven't made themselves known.

I agree that for ME3 they could of had the underwear replaced with say a bedsheet(which they already use to censor Liara) and then when she sits up just have them out of the camera angle.
That's easy.

Hmm, I suppose that would work. I was thinking just have the camera moved up slightly for the scene so everything is out of camera angle.
That's fair enough.

I know, and I am sorry I cannot help you understand my perspective better. ![]()

I really don't understand how certain people are so bothered by easily skippable pixel breasts & butt, it isn't mandatory to watch
It is mandatory to look at though if you pursue the romance. Even though you can skip the sex scene itself, there are pillow talk scenes that have them still nude that you will have to look at when choosing dialogue options. This is the problem I have with it.

I don't get it either. I mean, people are going to see nudity irl at some point in their life. Why be so prudish about it in a video game?
As an A-sexual finding out about the mention in dialouge disturbs me. It was fine in DA2 since i could skip it and nothing explicet was mentioned, just implied. But now this '****** and ass taking on the side' makes me feel really
.
Hmm, I never thought of it before but I wonder if my orientation is part of the reason I do not like it in media as well.

Having sex with your LI isn't mandatory either. You can turn them down and still keep the romance going (not sure if this is a universal truth with all the LIs). Come to think of it, maybe having that option is a result of BW including in-game nudity.

I'm asexual and I don't mind it at all. But then, I basically grew up on dirty jokes an innuendos, so that might be why it doesn't bother me.
I'm not behind the idea of blacking out the screen and having voice over instead of nudity. To me, that just sends a message that nudity is something that needs to be hidden away or is dirty or shameful or embarrasing. I understand that some people don't like to see it, but it seems excessive to black it out so that no one can experience. Does it need to be in the game? No. But that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be there given that almost everything in the game "doesn't need to be there". If we keep removing anything that anyone might find offensive, we'd not have a game anymore.
But if there's a reason why people think there should be nudity, then there's something to discuss.

I don't think orientation has anything to do with it

Not eyes, screen. Cover the screen, but not where the dialogue wheel pops up. Besides, you can hear if they stopped talking to know when the dialogue wheel pops up.
