All right. Whatever. It's clear you're not even listening to me and are just arguing to be an ass. I'm done.

I wish people in this thread could be respectful with their posts instead of either veiled (or outright) insults or looking for ways to be offended.

That would be the golden age of the interwebs, it'll never happen.

I'm sorry I just find it very hard to take people who are made uncomfortable by natural body parts seriously. Its like saying noses deeply offend you and asking for an ability to toggle noses off

Some people just don't want to see things like that. Some aren't comfortable with it. Nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is someone telling someone else they should feel differently just because they are okay with something. Seriously comparing ****** and ass to a nose? Both T and A are commonly associated with Sex, where as a Nose(outside certain fetish groups) is not associated with Sex. That's like saying baseball is like football because it has ball in the word.

Now don't get me wrong I do not in any way support censoring nudity in a MA rated game just because some people might not like it. And I personally think if it is such a big deal then they need to avoid romance all together because in my opinion that is where all romance leads....which is sex and nudity, That is why I seriously hope they release a dev toolkit so people can mod what they don't want in the game(Yes even skin color, and sorry console players not fair I know).

vocal minorities have too much sway.

Too much sway because the non-vocal ones are the ones that don't really care, they just want to enjoy the game no matter what. A majority of the people who will buy this game will not make a post on the forums/social media.

About nudity...

I've just checked the Nexus mods for DAO and what a surprise! the most downloaded mod is "Better sex scenes", with over 800k downloads, 300k more than DAO redesigned and natural bodies.

Have you checked Skyrim mods? The most downloaded are about the UI, environment and textures and, Better female bodies and Better males. There is also an "animated prostitution" sex mod with more than 2 millions downloads.

I even saw a mod of RE6 with Piers & Chris fully naked with a huge hard-on. And I'm not even talking about the women mods.
The Sims 2 & 3 communities areprobably the biggest of all - the nudity & sex mods are crazy.

A lot of mods in other games include nudity as well. The real question is why?

One of the first mods I downloaded for DA:O(except for the camp storage) was the better sex/nude mods, not just because I wanted porno in my game but I've always been bugged by games that allow you to romance but you have one 2 second scene and that is it. I liked those mods because every time I felt like roleplaying a relationship I had the chance to be intimate with my love intrest at any point I wished.

The very first mod on the nexus site for Skyrim, Day 1 was a nude mod....just sayin

Isn't there a whole site that's about nothing but that kind of mod? Lovelabs or some such?

I'm fine with nudity and adult content if it can be done tastefully. I really don't want my romance to wax poetic about the length of my sword.

I think they are asking for a toggle not to remove it entirely

The problem with asking for a toggle is that if they give one, people demand toggles for other things.  It will cause a domino effect.

People need to learn to ignore things on their own and not have the world cater to their demands.

Don't want to see nudity in your game? Don't have your character romance anyone.

Problem solved.

I don't mind nudity because I am comfortable with my body. I don't mind being naked because once the clothes are put off, there's nothing else to hide, you can't lie either. It's difficult for me to be offended by something even though there are lots of atrocities in this world.

For me, DAI is just a video game with some contents that I may like or not. Whether I like it or not, I will play the game like I played the Fade in the Circle in DAO and yet I couldn't stand that part of the game but I dealt with it because once it's done, I could move on to somewhere else and continue the game.

Heh. I was only there once, actually. I saw some pics of what looked like nude 13-year-olds and I kinda got grossed out.

OTOH, the message board thread that led me there in the first place was really helpful.

Indeed. Can we avoid insults, generalizations and "weaponizing" therapy? I mean geez. Having an opinion on a videogame doesn't mean you need counseling, and needing counseling doesn't mean anything other than you're a human being trying to work out your life.

I'm not even sure what the focus of this thread is anymore.

Anyway, I think it's possible to convey intimacy and vulnerability without nudity. I also think that that's an effective way to do it. I feel bad for the people who will not enjoy seeing that. I hope it doesn't effect your overall experience too much.

Personally, I am more glad that the focus on sexuality in this game is (contrary to some posts here lmao) less "boobs everywhere" and more "women as people." It seems more respectful overall, therefore I'm not as anxious about the nudity. If ME3, for example, had announced this, I would have rolled my eyes so hard they'd fall out my head.

I wouldn't disguise any of this as women not as people though. Mass Effect handled romance scenes tastefully. There is nothing non-tasteful about a man taking a shirt off and embracing a women taking a shirt off.

There is nothing for anyone to roll their eyes at. Honestly, I see the ME as Team A when it comes to romance scenes in creativity. They brought more life to the romance thus far. I can only hope hope dragon age tries to move in that direction.

Well im happy BioWare has finally stepped up their game and decided to include nudity. It shows games are progressing and i like that.

I dont like when games treat me like a 12year old who cant see a pair of breast without insta-wanking and losing all understanding of plot, characters or lore  -.-

I have to admit some of the disscussion on nudity in games confuses me. The unrealistic part mostly. I mean, does everyone else always take off all their clothes before sex? I have had sex 90% clothed, and completely clothed. Add in skirts/dresses and we have both been completely clothed before, or even 90% and 90%. And I know I have had sex while still wearing a bra. I mean I get that lesbian sex and heterosexual sex are pretty different from each other, but it can't be so different that the idea of still wearing any clothes seems impossible?

Personally I prefer fade to Black, but I prefer that in movies as well, it just seems voyeuristic to me.  But the whole idea it is completely impossible that before the "main event" people may still have on clothes is what really baffles me. Bioware never shows the actual act, and it seems even logical that before that begins people are still in their underwear. In their underwear afterwards? Okay that is weird, but right before? That seems to imply it was a spontaneus thing rather than "let's have sex now, so first take off your clothes and THEN we will have foreplay."

I'm not sure I understand why some people say "it's a Mature game so of course it has to have nudity in it." Like nudity is some golden standard of maturity? Is it not possible to have a mature game without nudity in it?

A good point.

But at the same time I do think it is humorous when people rail against nudity, but have no problem with depictions of graphic violence. People can claim they also aren't comfortable with the violence when they are accused of having double standards regarding adult content, but when was the last time you saw a 25 page debate on whether or the DA games are too violent? Does any thread devoted to that topic even exist?

I agree that it is possible to start having sex with clothes on or even keep some clothes during sex.

One of the most intimate parts of foreplay can be to undress each other, I'm not sure how well this could be show in a video game though, but it would be nice to see a developer try to do it.

My main issue with BioWare sex scenes has always been the fact that people are clothed afterwards.

There are people who have sex with their clothes on & might end up still with their clothes on, but when I see this in media, I know that it is due to people wanting to hide the human body rather than just depicting a way people have sex.

And that is my issue with all video games using a fig leaf instead of showing a part of the human body that there should be no need to hide.

If we look at one scene in isolation, then fade to blacks or careful camera angles are fine, but if we take all of these scenes that are in all games as a whole, then the fact that most games do it leaves the negative impression that certain parts of the body should always be hidden.

This is why I'm glad that BioWare has chosen to experiment with how they show these scenes.

Can't say if it's more biological, but for men, it has more to do with physical attraction. While participating in many straight guys' conversations, they often talk about women underneath the clothes, their body, boobs, and butts. It's the same with gay guys, but with more emphasis on other parts. It leads me to believe that men tend to sought for that physical perfection in a partner. While with girls, the conversations are generally about that emotional connection, and not even about sex. I'm not saying that it's universal, but it's very consistent from my experience. That is why I believe that fully clothed sex would not work, especially toward the mainstream buyers who care about the romance content.

Seeing as they said you can skip the sex scene and still maintain the relationship then it's basically fade to black. It would allow people who want nudity for their romance and those who don't want it to both have what they want. I haven't seen anyone address this yet that the sex scene is entirely optional.

I would much rather they left the nudity out altogether. We are not 12 year olds - if we want to find naked people, it is pretty easy to find on the internet. And it really isn't necessary for storytelling. The use of creative camera angles and object placement can easily get around the sex with underwear thing.

It doesn't really bother me personally, since I won't be up to that sort of thing in game (I will leave that to you perverts), but including nudity just adds fuel to the anti-gaming crowd's argument.

As with the mature argument, nudity is not mature, but at the same time, intentionally avoid it is also immature. If the game calls for it, then they should add nudity, not randomly place like naked chicks pop up out of nowhere constantly like in certain other game series. Porn is everywhere, yes, but they still add sex everywhere like during movies and TV shows. The argument about sexual content in video games can be made with TV shows and movies as well. It can enhance the romance between 2 people. The anti-gaming crowd is like a dying breed. They're powerless to do anything, so I don't care what they say. With the growing economy of video games at the moment, I doubt the U.S. government cares. Cigarettes are bad for you, but they still allow it because it makes people happy and bring in big money for the treasury.

I mean lesbians do that too. I am more asexual sometimes than not, but my fiance is different. I always felt guys were more visual and women were more tactile. Sex can be great without even seeing the other person (underneath covers stuff). Although granted, men certainly seem more "driven" in that area than women. I had no idea it was optional, but thank you for putting the debate more in perspective.
