Quite right. Can't import models between two different game engines.

I thought they sent over the world state from the keep to the game? No?

But that's not influenced by what you actually did in the game.  I have one world state using an Amell I only played to like level 5.  I got her out of the origin story and into some of Ostagar.  But she's the warden in my "Completely screwed up world state".  So actually playing the game has no bearing on what decisions Inquisition will reflect in the game play.

Right but I tried to reconstruct pretty closely the decisions I made in Origins so In my answers to the Keep's questions I pretty much put in that...

Spoiler
so hopefully that's how it is when the game gets going. Oh bother  I'll just roll with whatever turns up!

Yes, I suspect that if an NPC is dead in your imported world state, then someone else will take his/her place.

Otherwise, rotting corpse GW doesn't work for me either  :P

I'm thinking Warden Alistair will take Loghain's place, and then Stroud if Alistair's off ruling or drinking.

They are legendary heroes who excel at killing demons, monsters, people and old gods
Also at resolving political conflicts
Pretty useful if you ask me

They are heroes specialized in Darkspawn, they killed a really big one in a backwater nation during the smallest Blight in history, that doesn't make them the go to guy for every crisis.

The reason why we have this problem with the Warden is because Bioware made a huge mistake by having an open ending in DA:O. After that, it became impossible to maintain the continuity of the setting in a satisfying way.

All Hawkes are basically the same character, despite the differences in gender, class, personality, and appearance. They all came to Kirkwall as refugees, made a fortune there, became local heroes, got involved in a huge mess, and eventually fled Kirkwall. It's easy to include a character like that in later stories with minor variation.

The surviving Wardens, on the other hand, became powerful figures in Ferelden, with many influential friends. Some of them couldn't find a place there and continued traveling. Others ruled Ferelden with Alistair/Anora or became dwarven Paragons. Some tried establishing a new elven homeland, while others became influential Grey Warden leaders. Some probably got involved in the Mage-Templar War in a major way.

As far as I can see it, Bioware fixed their mess by assuming that the Warden's story was over, and none of that had any significant consequences. If you value the continuity and the internal consistency of the setting, you probably want to select someone who didn't have any major ambitions as your canon Warden. For me, it was the City Elf who wandered off with Leliana and Zevran, instead of the Elf Mage who tried to establish an elven homeland, with Arcane Warriors as its guardians.

This, a thousand times this. The Warden is not the Shepard of Thedas, they are not the Alpha hero of this setting, they are the first we played as simple as that. Yes giving them a cameo or something would be nice but what would they bring to the table that would be worth the sheer amount of effort it would take to realize it and the ire it would draw from fans even if they got it right? More importantly, what would they bring to the table that a companion from awakening or Origins wouldn't?  Hawke has an established voice, hawke has generally definable possible personalities, Hawke was involved in a lot of stuff that had effects far beyond Kirkwall. Hawke is all around far easier to incorporate into the story and actually give it meaning.

I don't want another Revan in TOR.

I was expecting an encounter with the warden in the deep roads some where. Maybe he/she will ask for a mercy kill.

You could, as it would be the file name (extension) that needs to be read by both engines. It may have been more work than was necessary, though.

And that would not go over well with most fans.

But at least we would know what happened to the Warden and will be able to say goodbye to the character. Death is still better than not knowing where he is.

The Warden is apart of that quest Deep into the Abyss which if you remember, was the quest that spoiled the return of Corypheus.

Then he or she should of been canonically killed in DAO, pointless to kill them now.

My first import will have the warden alive but never romanced Leliana and married Alister.

*snip for pointless spoiler hiding*

I didn't have a sudden attack of senile dementia.  I know their names.  I was trying not to name names since most people have put the name of the NPC inside spoiler tags instead of spelling it out like that. <_<

The War table mission kinda implies we know where they are

That is not even remotely true.

The Warden can actually solve problems without causing a world or civil war. A pretty damn useful skill
Really, some people are just making up facts to justify their dislike for the Warden

I'm off for half a day and this thread suddenly gets 10 pages of Hawke v. Warden. The hell happened?

I don't dislike the Warden, I just think people keep trying to make the Warden into more than they are and don't seem to get how much of a unnecessary risk having them appear in person would be.

How exactly?

Is the Warden going to just up and murder everyone in order to stop all wars?

I have no idea where you are getting this "You guys hate the Warden" thing, but I guess you know our thought processes better than we do.

The Warden got away with a lot of what they did because they where grey wardens during the middle of the blight, which basically means they have the right to do whatever the heck they want through whatever means they deem fit, Hawke was a Refugee in literally the worst city in Thedas, never even coming close to having the amount of Freedom and power the Warden had, so yeah they did worse then the warden, put any of the wardens in Hawke's shoes and I doubt they would have done much better.

The Warden is great when it comes to fighting darkspawn and making sure people focus on fighting darkspawn, guess what's not the primary antagonist of this game? Hawke at least has experience with the mage templar conflict

Spoiler
so their involvement makes sense.

Like they did in DAO and DA2 :P
Considering that you guys are just obsessed with the Warden not appearing and "proving" how "weak" they actually are and how "stupid" their fans are, I wouldn't call you Warden fans
Otherwise people wanting to see the Warden get recognition they deserve wouldn't anger you
