Really? Did you try SkyUI and compare? The difference is night and day.
Skyrim's vanilla UI was a prime example of a console-centric UI that was just clunky on PC. Large fonts, lists everywhere, and a huge amount of wasted screen space.
I have and use SkyUI. My point is that there are different UIs suited to different situations and I imagine the base UI was great on console. Bethesda slacks on a lot of areas that they know modders will fill in, PC UI being one of them.
I just played the Inquisition trial this morning for the past two hours, on Xbox.
(It's my first time playing a BioWare game on a console since Jade Empire in 2005 and my preorder for Inquisition is the PC version, before the master racists start shouting me down for not knowing anything about PC.)
I was actually struck by the opposite. They PC-ified the console interface! You can go to full tactical camera, play in an almost turn-based style, etc and somehow they made it incredibly fluid with the controller. The console UI didn't feel trimmed down. If that is any indication, then the PC interface will be better still. They seem to have taken cues from Steam's Big Picture mode that have paid off really well.
I'm going to play the multiplayer tonight with some BSNers so I'll update about that when I get to it, but so far things are looking really, really good. I can't wait till Monday!
