Saren's Virmire facility, the Peak 15 Garage on Noveria, Feros, and the Prothean Ruins on Therum, all of these encounters had Krogan and Geth Heretics working together side by side.

This raises a few unexplored questions:

  1. Did these two groups have any kind of comraderie? Did they communicate at all about anything besides coordinating attacks?
  2. Were the Krogan all clones, or just indoctrinated? At least the Doctor on Virmire and some of the battlemasters weren't clones, but I wasn't clear on some of the other the Krogan enemies we fought.
  3. Was there any major tie back to Tuchanka or other other Krogan organizations and clans?

Depending on the order in which the missions are done, Virmire isn't necessarily the first place we run into krogan working for Saren. There's at least one (more commonly several) in every one of the plot missions, although, until you reach the end game, I do think Virmire has the greatest number. No actual source to back that up; could be just as many on Feros, for example. Actually, I don't remember any on Ilos, but I could be wrong.

Other than battle cries/taunts I only remember one that actually talks to you, on Therum. There's one on Feros that talks to the ExoGeni VI. Up until I played Virmire, though, I just figured they were mercs-for-hire, like Wrex, but it's entirely possible they were all clones. ME2 sheds some light on cloned krogan behavior -- except Grunt, he's a special case :D . Are Saren's clones the same as Okeer's, and just doing what they're bred to do, without much independent thought? Hmm, who can say?

My impression was that the battlemasters (silver armor) were mercs or Saren devotees who wanted to see the geonphage cured, while the grunts, the guys in red armor, were clones.

*snip*

1-It is noted that Sovereign is loaded with Geth and Krogan. The Krogan are searching for the Cure of the Genophage... It was just discovered laaaater in game that Saren had that cloning Facility in Virmire. I don't think that there were any reason to comunicate, TBH.

2- What Cap Said.

3- It's noted on the Codex that after the Krogan Rebellions ended(after the Genophage), many Krogan left their colonies and their Homeworld(Tuchanka) to live a Merc Life... So, it could be Saren "hired" them, or [Sovereign] Indocrinated them or something like that

It actually makes sense, since on Virmire they are working and defending a Base that has possibly the Genophage Cure.

Feros? We had Krogan on Feros? I only remember that one we encountered that was yelling at Exogeni VI.

Ilos we don't have. Just Geth.

Also, it could be that they are bred like Okeer bred them in ME2... It was to cure the Genophage/Serve a Master (fighting)

...

Aside from the one talking to the VI, there were just enemies. I think there was a few defending Gavin Hoslte's data in the Exo Geni facility, and there are another few defending the Geth transmitter, if I remember correctly.

Even if they were clones I'm really curious as to what kind of interactions they had. If any of them got captured on the Citadel during the Geth assualt at the climax, or on Tuchanka as returning mercs that survived or that just weren't part of the final assault, they must have been interrogated. Those Krogan would have been the first to have worked with the Geth since they sealed themselves behind the Veil.

There were Heretics still alive in ME2. Stands to reason there may also be Krogan from Saren's army.

“Anyone who fights us is either stupid or on Saren's payroll. Killing the latter is business. Killing the former is a favor to the universe.”

Pretty much describes the situation :D
