"My lady protagonist had male animations in cutscenes, so she'd swagger into each scene carrying invisible suitcases , legs splayed like she was riding an imaginary horse. It's all pretty awkward."

Really? That's still in there? It was in DA:O, why is it still in DA:I?

To make up for her running around like her hips have come unglued from the rest of her body?

More like can't be bothered to have two sets of realistic animations, despite all the polish on the rest of the game. *sigh*

I've started a couple of threads on this before, don't expect it to ever change, and no answers from any devs either. We'll be stuck looking like we have a 5 pound "thing" down there that makes us walk like cowboys that suffers from hiney pains..

In the name of equality, all women must walk like men?  Sounds legit.

I think we'll get used to it. It will look awkward at first walking sensually, swaying your hips, outside cutscenes and when a cutscene starts - oh hey Cullen! *does the macho walk* Sup, bruh?!

If i remember correctly DA2 had the same problem, fixable with a mod, no such luck with inquisition i guess. ME2 had the same problem in Kasumi mission with a Femshep who walked like a dude in a dress.

If I recall correctly, Femshep didn't have her own.

This just goes to show that we should ballet dance into the room. Gender irrelevant.

I don't know what's so wrong about DA:O's female animation that they felt it needed to change, as opposed to the male one which has been the same in all 3 games.

DAO was a little male-ish, and DA2 was a little extreme to the other side. In fairness, getting it 'right' is not going to be an easy task simply because there are so many things to take into account for females and then trying to convert them to 3D animations. I am one of those that walks foot in front of foot and that is fine so long as I don't run, while my wife has a more balanced gate. Of course she can kick a soccer ball with out falling down and me, not so much.

I doubt that there will ever be consensus on this (if my daughter will let me finish this thought), because most of us do not see ourselves walking from behind. And while I enjoy watching others walk, some do walk like men and some do have extreme hip movements. Finding the mean is probably not going to be easy.

As far as running it should be as easy as converting Florence Griffith-Joyner's strides to 3D and I doubt if there are many women that would object.

I remember thinking "why is she walking like a gorilla" in the cutscene where you arrive in Ostagar. It was after the talk with King Cailan, you talk a bit with Duncan while walking towards the camp.

It's the same problem as in Inquisition. In cutscenes all 3 dragon age games use the male walking/running for everything. Admittedly my post is strictly off topic since it's about walking outside cutscenes. Apologies.

It can't be that hard to fix. Take a woman, probably one with a more athletic bent considering the gameplay, stick ping pong balls all over her. Have her walk around in front of a camera, turn that into the animation.

I doubt they'd patch it for this game, but it is highly disappointing that they didn't care to have enough time to make sure that the animation were a smooth transition into cutscenes with both genders instead of just one. :(

I don't think Bioware does cutscenes like that.  (No idea actually.)

Might be too expensive to mocap several hours of cutscenes.

We can all hope that they decide it's important enough to work on post launch.... Maybe more reviewers or fans after the game launches disliking it as well may nudge them to address it.

It's frustrating that the male animations are the default, hopefully this changes next game.

I'd prefer a toggle, so you can have a feminine, neutral, or masculine walk no matter gender.

That is different permutations for each reactionary animation. It takes up a lot of resources

If the male animation wasn't exaggerated this wouldn't be so glaring, but they went for some bow-legged strut that looks awkward as hell and doubly so on a female.

Also, I love how it's a matter of resources when it concerns adding anything female.

It would be nice to have a definite answer on it. It ruins the immersion

Thats the problem studio's have. They go for the easier route.
