Umm, nope. That's not going to cut it.

Space is pause, why it would be anything else just makes no sense.

And in every other game, you used the mouse to turn left and right as you walked forward. Are you telling me you can't hold both buttons to walk, AND you can't even hold the forward key and turn with the mouse?

Seriously?

Spacebar is jump in MMOs where there is no such thing as pause.  Dunno if they did this for multiplayer?

Movement controls in DA:I are straight out of realtime shooters where right button is aim and left button is fire, and movement is WASD.  (someone correct me if I'm wrong here, I never played many of these).

So the UI isn't really designed for the game we're playing, but I'm hoping a few re-maps and a multibutton mouse can fix it.

This game plays similar to how Elder Scrolls Online plays.  I was able to re-bind keys in that game to make my character move using the mouse. I could do something similar in DAI if they would allow you to bind keys to your mouse buttons.

Gaming mice will usually have manufacturer's site download of a tool to remap the buttons. I've done it for other games.

Remember when the dev said they took inspiration from Skyrim, well it wasn't just the open world thing. It was also the action mode controls.

I have no problem with it, seems like a lot of people do going by the look in these forums right now.

I would be really sad if they ignore us  :(

Unless Fans are close to burning down bioware's office like they were after ME 3, Bioware usually isn't too keen on fixing their broken games.

The second big dlc for DA 2 had a savegame corrupting bug, which isn't fixed to this day.

I guess I wont be playing this until Bioware or a modder patches F to also loot all.

Heck even the console version has that...

Just installed the game.. took me 50minutes.

I'm  on the Wrath of Heaven quest. My hands have developed muscle memory from playing DAO

and DA2. Guess what? My index finger keeps pressing M1 to go forward and instead I blast

Cassandra with a spell.... or two.

Or I'm in the middle of a fight with Cassandra doing her thing way... over there and the demon

decides to attack me using a melee attack. Next thing I know my fingers do their muscle memory dance and suddenly the camera keeps doing a 360  while I'm being pummeled.. not funny at all.

I really don't understand the reasons for such K+M control changes.

It's also not very different from Skyrim's scheme. Last time I checked that was an RPG.

Well MikeLaidlaw said on twitter that The tac cam centering is a bug and they might work on the walk and loot ping stuff.

But my main concern is the  loot all, how come controller gets that key.

I'm loving DAI but Bioware really needs to patch keyboard and mouse support big time.

Yeah, I don't dare turn on FF, at least until I've gotten used to this UI  :crying:

For future reference Bioware, if you're going to use MMO type combat, please for the love of god let us actually use MMO type controls.

The game plays very similar to Elder Scrolls Online, only here is the difference..I can bloody change my Mouse 1 button to Forward, and edit another key to be "Auto Attack" ...It makes the game much easier to control...

This game though, i'm bloody stuck with with those god awful control scheme.

On PC space is "loot all" or so I have heard.

Because EA wants to sell 20 million copies of Dragon Age, and this is of course only possible if you copy Skyrim....

Anyway, I wonder if Dragon Age: Inquisition will outsell Dragon Age: Origins.

Hmmmmm.

The "walk" and loot stuff? Does this mean rmb+lmb = walk? The thing Tyler Lee said was in the game in August?

  • No moving by pressing both left and right mouse button (since MB1 is attack)
No, that's not the reason why. In the last 2 Dragon age games, you couldn't move by hitting the Left mouse button either. Moving was done by holding down just the *right* Mouse button. There IS no valid reason why the Right mouse button can't serve the exact same function in this game.

But... I'm done whining about these hideous controls, and giving Bioware the benefit of the doubt. Time for me to join the "bad word of mouth" club, and start warning people against this game.

I am loving this game despite some of the faults it has with controls. I can live with not being able to move forward with the mouse. But I can't stand some other issues I'm having; when I'm paused and switch character sometimes the game unpauses... Am I the only one with this issue ? Also I would love to be able to tell my companions to "move here" outside of tactical cam. And last thing, the hold button doesn't prevent companions from attacking.

OK, got to chime in here. I was still installing this game when I began reading this thread. I thought people were just over-reacting. Now that I have played it for about an hour, I understand - the control scheme sucks - no other word for it.

Bioware, what were you thinking? We want to play Dragon Age, not some MMO. Why can't I use the mouse to point and click, like I have done for your past two games? I keep hitting "space" to pause the game - because that's what literally hundreds of hours of playing the prequels taught me.

And what's with having to hold down the right mouse button to look? Did I miss "mouse look" somewhere? You know, where your character turns in the direction the mouse moves it, without having to hold down a button?

This game is unplayable for me. If they do not fix this, and fix it soon, this is the last piece of change Bioware will ever get from me. DA:2 was disappointing. DA:I is a disaster because they monkeyed with the controls. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It sure looks to me like this was designed for consoles with no thought to PC users. I have never been so disappointed by a game, ever.

If anyone is on the fence about buying this; my recommendation is to wait until they fix it. If they don't; spend your money elsewhere.

Of course, if they allowed modding, we could fix it immediately... if they allowed modding.

I realize that sane, rational and informed critique is the best way to go; but right now, I am spitting mad. Mad because a game I have anticipated for so long, has turned out to be unplayable because someone made a very questionable design decision.

Insert here a long list of Anglo-Saxon, monosyllabic gutterals, describing in rich, graphic detail, the ancestry, personal hygiene and bizarre sexual tastes of whoever OK'd this choice...

Huh?  Are you sure you're not playing with the console UI?  That doesn't make sense.

They said we would be able to walk fwd while holding down both mouse buttons, "Just like previous games"  A Bio developer came on here and said it.  And in previous games, you could do that and "steer" via the mouse.  You are saying that dynamic is gone now?  It's a shooter, basically?

And last thing, the hold button doesn't prevent companions from attacking.

Fantastic.

I'm still a day or so away from getting to play the game - but the concerns being raised about PC support worry me.  Especially when mods are 'unlikely' (more due to third party software, instead of being difficult, which has been said before) - most times I wouldn't worry as I know there will be a mod out to fix the games issues...but in DA:I's case it may not happen.  So I hope some of the major issues are patched by Bioware themselves.

It does seem a real shame many of these issues are mitigated by using a controller - not all of us have one to use, nor should we really have to when the game is being released on the PC.

It's also not very different from Skyrim's scheme. Last time I checked that was an RPG.

But it is different from the control scheme in the last two games of the series. Skrim's interaction keys are similar to Oblivion's which is similar to Morrowind's. COnsistency. Also they seem to have not designed a seperate UI for PC beyond cosmetic issues. Everything is a different button and you can't reconfigure certain things because Bioware doesn't want you to.

They addressed the complaints of console users in DA:O (no isometric, combat easier, tactics less important, radial menu's awful - functionality not the same as the pc version and thus unfair) by designing a system that then makes playing on the pc more complicated by blocking us from doing certain things. The problem is not solved by removing features from the games of another group of players

With regards to the controls one thing is similar to Skyrim. They designed an interface for consoles that ended up being ported to pc and was more difficult for pc users to use (it was irritating). This was only fixed through mods, something that won't happen here

This is another example of a game where developers wanted to appeal to consoles and focussed less on pc. When you get into the game and see just how low the qa is for the game- another thing they borrowed from Bethesda, a studio which loves to make games riddled with bugs on all formats- they just didn't spend the time and money they should have on it. Or they didn't care. We on pc's already put up with the fact that most console games never get released on pc. When they do these days they favour consoles in development since the controls and the way things are rendered  are different on consoles
