I've heard lot of negative things about PC controls lately, I haven't been able to play for more than 10 mins because my framerate basically made my game unplayable but I do hope Bioware releases some day-one patch to address these issues.
Bioware please FIX keyboard and mouse support for PC!

I disagree. I had to adjust my keybindings for the tactical mode, but I had no difficulty using it for a ranged party, moving the reticle enabled me to select most enemies in the distance that I wanted to attack. On the off chance that something prevented me, I could go to regular view, select the character while paused and issue an order in that way.
You can move the reticle in Tactical mode by holding both mouse buttons, or the middle mouse button as well.
I like the mouse and keyboard controls, they are pretty much what we have become accustomed to on PCs for this type of game.

I agree that the tactical camera is a disaster. It was much better in DA:O. I also dislike that certain actions can only be completed in tac cam.
The game has been great so far, but the PC controls need some work. My issues:
- No auto-attack
- No moving by pressing both left and right mouse button (since MB1 is attack)
- Tac cam doesn't zoom out far enough.
- Some actions restricted to tac cam view.
- Press F to loot, but you have to click to 'take all'. (Edit: or press spacebar. Still weird to have require two different keys.)
- No option to walk.
- Can't bind actions to mouse.
- Menus are terrible. Need to be redesigned completely to look decent on PC.
-> Skill trees much too large and no option to zoom out. You have to scroll the view because it doesn't fit.
-> There are separate screens for everything. They should just make everything smaller so we get a good overview.
-> Using mouse scroll to go down a list selects different options.
It's a great game, but it's clear mouse and keyboard controls were an afterthought. Such a shame.

I'm going to try that. Maybe the default keybindings are not to my taste.

Yes I agree that the PC controls are horrible. Why do I have to hold the bloody right mouse button down to mouse move? I far prefer to walk using the forward button (whatever) but change direction based on mouse movement. At least I am then facing the object I want to use.
Tab to highlight items would be nice - is it customisable in the options?
If I am near an object (or enemy) and I click on it to interact, why doesn't the PC move to it and do what I wanted, not just stand there like I hadn't clicked on anything? Less PC RPG and more console FPS I guess. That and I keep left clicking to go to something or manipulate something and the PC attacks.
I guess I will get used to the controls but I don't like them. PEBKAC! ![]()
Tactical cam is too close IMHO, it's just not user friendly on a PC which is a pity.
Then there's the the video stuttering on the cut scenes (Nvidia card), and load times.
I am going to try it on my Asus G750JH later (with the most recent drivers as it requires 340.52 or above).
Don't get me wrong, I am really enjoying it so far but it has a few kinks that need ironing out with a patch or game specific profile/drivers. ![]()

The game is made for controllers, not M&K. Simple as that.
Fixed that for you.

The default keybinding sucks. Once I fixed mine, Tactical camera and walking around flowed super well.

No. Made for consoles. Huge fonts are there for a large television not a screen I'm sitting close to.

I completely agree with everything you said.
- I have extra mousebuttons and I can't map them - why not?
- Why is there a button to sprint (shift), yet I'm already always sprinting?
- Why can't I right-mouseclick on a spot and make my party move there? This is especially true if you want to loot something and have to physically walk till you're on top of it. This is also annoying if you're in 'pause' mode and want to move a character to another position - you can't...
- Why can't I easily view the abilities on the right side in the menu? I can click on them to rearrange them, but most of the time, I don't get any information about it (it usually gives the information about 1 ability and doesn't change). If I want to check it, I will need to find the ability on the left side...
It's clear that the playtesting was done with controllers, because there is no way K&M playtesters would accept this. There are just too many small annoyances.

I would expect as a PC user,
moveable UI to set the icons, bars where I want them with map and quests etc..
I play using 3 screens and if I cant move my UI around and its on my sidescreens in a 2014 game supposedly developed on PC then the guys at bioware cant design for pc. I also would expect mousebind to buttons.

Unfortunately the PC version seems like a bad console port, at least in terms of controls and UI. Hopefully it will be modded by smart people.
I was slightly gobsmacked that Bioware's flagship RPG that makes such a big deal out of an immersive story could forget something as fundamental as a walk-toggle.

To this day I can't play through Kotor because of the controls even if I want to play the story. I've given it up twice. I'm afraid Inquisition might be another example.
Mods are not a thing in Inquisition, it's been said repeatedly.
The inability to walk is downright funny. I don't think I've ever played an RPG without it.

Just noticed there is no walk option. Wow....
Thanks for all the answers. I'm glad that I wasn't the only one having issues with this.
Hopefully we'll get a patch as soon as possible.

Agreed, these controls are awkward to use. I want to order my dudes to do things but I can't do that except in tac-cam and I can't use tac-cam because it's derping out all the time.
I know it's like the biggest cliché around here to say that Origins did it better, but the controls in that game felt so good.

Agreed, but I think DA2 actually had the best combat. Sure, it didn't have the amazing zoom that DAO had, but the overall feel of the combat was much nicer and more fluid.
I remember in DAO when you could attack cancel with your two handed warrior to increase your attack speed by nearly double.
Good times

Really? Why won't they?
Nope. The Indian customer service guy said I don't get a refund for a reason he pulled out of his ***. They wouldn't even give me a gift certificate so that I could buy another game.
That "Great Game Gaurantee" stuff mentioned on the Origin page is a bunch of BS.

The controls get better as you mess around with the keybindings. The default are just poorly thought out. Still is lacking in control vs the previous games but then again I had that expectation going into it.
My biggest beef with the game right now is the party AI personally. How is this a tactical game when your party members don't even respond to your commands? You tell them to attack a target and they go take ONE swipe at it then return to attacking whatever they were targeting before.

Wow this is sure great this game runs bad and plays bad amazing how it could pull all that off. Because it is the pc version I can't even take it back lol.
I'm amazed that Bioware could make a game worse than DA2, although they had four freaking years this time instead of just one.

Yes they could be better.
I wouldn't even call them PC controls anymore; I'm surely not the only one that regularly uses a controller and big screen from couch.
But for DA I'd like really tight M&KB controls....going to have to fiddle with all the bindings...or maybe a really nice person out there will make a nice profile for us all to use

The default keybindings are not too well thought out. Changing them helps a LOT. Unfortunately, you can't bind keys to your mouse. You know mice have had a LOT more buttons than 3 for quite awhile now. You would think we could at least use them.
Still remapping keys to find the best combination. Ctrl for a pause button? How did they pick that button for something used so much? Had to put that back to space bar.

you just need to get used to it
Just because it's new and different doesn't mean it's bad

PC CONTROLS ARE HORRIBLE IT'S NOT LIKE I CAN CHANGE THEM INT ANYWAY SHAPE OR FORM AND NO I CAN'T USE AN XBOX CONTROLLER
oh wait...
You can't fix 90% of our issues ourselves. Worse, for many of us controllers are just as bad or even worse. I understand a lot of people are content especially since the game went through loops to make life easier for them, but using Tac Cam with a controller is no more fun than with a keyboard and mouse.

I found them very bad at first but eventually got used to the movement controls and that part wasn't so bad. I do find spamming v every second to look for shinies to be a very annoying feature tho. Tactical camera is super weird to control.
