After reading the Game Informer review of DA:I I noticed they said that you can't switch weapons during combat. So if you start combat with a bow & an enemy gets close you can't switch to daggers or if you are a mage and you have a Fire Staff you can't switch to a say lightning or ice staff. Is this correct?

That is fine if that is how it is set up, just will take some different planning or switching to maybe a different character during battle.

Correct; no switching weapons during combat. One can withdraw from battle to a safe area, then respec or select other Talents and gear.
