National Geographic has a very interesting, disturbing, really just downright gross, article this month about parasitic organisms. Halloween special? Dunno. The one that creeped me out the most was the parasitic fungi that can cause an ant to "explode" above it's colony, raining fungus spores down on its ant buddies to get infected.

Ugh.

Ophiocordyceps Fungus Ophiocordyceps sp.
Amazonian Ant Dinoponera longipes
Pity the ant afflicted by the mindsucker Ophiocordyceps. When spores of the fungus land on an ant, they penetrate its exoskeleton and enter its brain, compelling the host to leave its normal habitat on the forest floor and scale a nearby tree. Filled to bursting with fungus, the dying ant fastens itself to a leaf or another surface. Fungal stalks burst from the ant’s husk and rain spores onto ants below to begin the process again.

Yep, heard of it, creepy. It's also the inspiration of the disease in The Last of Us.

Yep. The creators said they ripped it off verbatim from Discovery's Planet Earth special, which featured the same fungus among us.

Not much to talk about in DA right now, honestly. The only thing people can talk about this close to release is vague pre-reviews and vague pre-release spoilers, neither of which I'm all that interested in. I stick my head in there, but nothing father my eye too often this last week or so.

Well, I had planned on waiting for response of the masses. But I built my first computer in years this spring and, like an inexperienced chollo, loaded it with Windows 8 32 bit. So I can't play DA:I even if I wanted to until I partition and reformat my hard drive. Which I just haven't gotten around to. When I do, I might pick it up if it has really good fan reviews.

Viruses are still the worst.

75% of us have some type of parasite. (Not counting the bacteria in our intestine)

Have a nice day!!

(I was gonna post a Botfly pic but I don't have the nerve today...)

....

Hahaha * cackles desperately *

I like David Attenborough's positive spin on the fungus - population control! The insects won't get out of hand.

I bet he was infected when he said that.

90% of the cells in or on our body are bacteria! RIGHT NOW, one out of three people have tuberculosis (in a mannor of speaking)!

Hmmmm. I don't think the combat system will be a problem. Not as engaging as Origins and the stats removal and lack of tactics AI are worrisome, but it's not the thing I think will draw the most criticism.

Oh? You can't make a leading statement like that without expounding!

I honestly can't think of any other feature, other than the combat, that's controversial.

Probably talking about how they didn't get rid of save imports.
