If the busywork is basically stuff I can do while I get lost in maps, I'm okay with that.

The means to getting said army might be busywork yes, but if it leads to you getting what you need, its worth it, and not inconsiderable.

yes, but the greywardens are established, you show up and go yo I am a greywarden I'm here to kick some darkspawn ass come help me ;)

You try that as the inquisition with no establish reputation, no treaties, nothing just you varric, cass and solas.

Yes your going to need to build that rep, build those recorces, and gain the trust. even build your own keep, in dragon age origins you didn't have to build a keep because you were not trying to do that your faction already has a seat a power and everything you yourself may not have access to those atm but you do not have to build those.

Skyrim got 9s and 10s with a skidmark of a story, so it doesn't support that the DA:I plot is all that either

They didn't rate skyrim on story because elderscrolls games are not about the story they are about the openworld do what you want any time aspect and it executed it pretty well.

Good busy work sounds like an real rpg, you have to build things up and consolidate and make connections before anything epic happens.

I tend to hate reviers so not really paying them much mind, but if the game is not fast paced enough for most of them will say that is a good thing.

Wonder if they are the type of people who wis skip all the lord of the rings movies and just go to the ending one.

Either it's busywork or it's just the logical process of building up an organisation from scratch and not being recognised as the grand leader of things from the get-go.

I get the distinct feeling that I'll appreciate the evolution there, even though others don't. We're awefully deep in the "I wantz fighting awesoam stuffz noaw" era after all.

OP please try to be a little more accurate with your premise. I read through about 25 reviews and watched about 20 review videos and a portion of them talked about the beginning or first x number of hours, not most of them. Opinions varied. Some gave high scores despite the story, others gave lower scores but still loved the early story, others like the entire story form the beginning. There was no consistency from anyone other than most liked the game a lot.

Good, it'll be all like lulling you into a false sense of security and safety and then BAM **** just got real. Or well, it would have if I hadn't known it was gonna happen.

If you don't remember Origins having a LOT of busywork, then I'm not sure there's anything to say to make you feel better.

I hear you. I lent my friend DA:O, Skyrim, and Fallout 3 and he told me he couldnt get into them because the prologues took too long and he got bored. What is wrong with people?

There's a difference between building and busywork.

Rome was not built in a week.  But they also didn't twittle their thumbs for a year.

How dare you refer to plodding through the endless (and mysteriously brightly lit) Deep Roads or navigating the incredibly annoying Fade over and over as busy work!!??  :P

That's not to mention all the crap inventory micro-management.

I assume the part where the reviewers thought the story started to kick off, is when Haven is attacked and you then relocate the Inquisition to Skyhold. :P

I've seen two reviewers now emphasize that its a lot more fun doing the side missions than the main story missions. Sounds like the main story is going to be Inquisition's flaw.

At this rate I suggest you not buy Inquisition and just keep playing Origins. You'll be happier that way.

Hated the fade. Always did it first before the other quests. Get it the hell out of the way lol

I actually liked the Deep Roads, but yeah the whole of Orzammar is busywork and multiple times throughout I've wanted to bash the brains of both Bhelen and Harrowmont and set myself up as provisional monarch.

Story's never been BioWare's strongpoint, it's always been the characters who made the story, always.

the only busywork was really doing bhelen's errands. (that I can think of right now at least)
Busywork is just part of video games- it's how it is structured that makes the difference.

Other than that, the main story was simply plot. Yes, the fade was annoying, but it wasn't busywork- it was just an annoying part of the plot.

Busywork would be "collect 40 elfroots for the wardens"

Can we define busywork? If it's "the plot is only gradually revealed," good. If it's "you spend a lot of time doing boring quests," not so good.
