The brilliance of the writing in Inquisition lies not in the overarching plot, but rather in the way the story draws together all the threads, and I mean all the threads, of the previous two Dragon Age games. I have never played a game that so deftly draws upon the plotlines of previous games in a franchise to shape its narrative, at once acknowledging old stories without feeling stale, and casting back to lore without feeling self indulgent.

I have a feeling fans of the series are really going to love the story.

he also said his biggest complaint was that you didn't get to know more about the characters until you did their character quest

like...that may be the dumbest thing i've ever seen any reviewer say

More:

The core of the game's story is taken up by solving the mysteries introduced in this climactic opening event. Why did you survive when no one else did? Who caused the explosion? Why has it left a hole floating in the sky giving demons easy access to the realm of men? The answers to these questions prove more engrossing and more world-changing than anything from the first two games.

But in true BioWare fashion, that broader story often takes a back seat to smaller character conflicts. The Inquisitor pulls together a huge group of followers, including nine playable party members, and each has reams of dialogue conveying a fully developed personality.

While I had my personal favorites, there really isn't a weak character in the bunch this time around. From the snarky dwarven crossbow expert Varric (a returning character from Dragon Age 2) to deadpan mercenary Iron Bull (voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr.!) to the immature, butt-obsessed elven rogue Sera, I was pushed to spend time with and get to know every single party member.

Their depth is reflected in how much I grew to respect even my least-liked companions. I often found myself changing directions based on their thoughts. If Solas — the driest character in my crew — suggested I approach a situation involving magic in a different way than I intended, I would listen to him more often than not.

It seems pretty subjective:  Gamespot gave Dragon Age a 9/10 and the reviewer said the story was solid, which is a complete contrast to what IGN said.

Play the game for yourself and see; at worst, I'm guessing the story at its core will be the cliche band of unlikely heroes who save the world, which I don't have a problem with.  8.8 is still a completely respectable score.

One review is meaningless.

If you want to get a fairly accurate read on how good a game, book, or film is...read a lot of reviews. Throw out the review that is the most glowing and ignore its worst review, and focus on the consensus of the rest between those two extremes. Also see if reviewers are repeatedly praising or criticizing the same elements. If you keep seeing the same features being praised or criticized there is probably some merit to it.

Dragon Age: Origins has a poor main story as well. The background lore, that's where the series shines.

I've seen two reviewers now emphasize that its a lot more fun doing the side missions than the main story missions. It sounds like the main story is going to be Inquisition's main flaw.

I think the best thing is to buy the game and see if the story is really bad indeed. (Obvious advice I know) I'm not sure I believe IGN. The other reviews I've read and seen, don't say anything about the story being bad.

I've never loved a Bioware story.

I love playing their games though.

Bioware has yet to let me down! So I am not worried!  :D

(I admit the ending to ME3 annoyed me, but it gives us a chance to play someone new in the next one so I am happy)

Well considering how ardently they kissed EA/Bioware's ass and white knighted the crap out of ME3 ending's... I take nothing their reviewers say seriously.

I'll decide for myself, if the plot of Dragon Age Inquisition is any good, after playing the game, thanks.

One must remember, that the IGN reviewer is stating his opinion and that as a consumer, one has the right to agree or disagree with his view of the Dragon Age Inquisition plot.

If the story is predictable with no story twists, then its bad. If you can forsee events and completely predict the way the story is going, then the story is bad.

If you are filled with curiosity, wonder and OMFG after major plot events - then the story is succeeding. True awe comes from the unknown. Reading a book and guessing the story right after 100 pages makes for a stunning failure.

Note: Simply my opinion

I think BioWare's strength is in characterization, not story.  And I don't think I'll be disappointed this time when it comes to that.   :)

The biggest problem I foresee is trying to figure out who to take adventuring with me!

On the other hand, more than 1 reviewer has said the story beats Origins and DA2 to a pulp. Maybe Vincent Incognito just made the worst choices possible and ended up with a "meh" ending.

Honestly, for every reviewer saying the story is poor or lacking, there's at least 5 others saying the story is good and even more epic than origins and da2.

At the end of the day, it doesnt matter, when you play it, you can judge it by yourself, but i wouldnt put much weight in this reviewer words alone.

Im annoyed at the guy for not showing off any of Seras Tempest skills in the review video.

Show off the reaver bull, embrace the knight enchanter Vivienne, tease us with a dash of necromancy .....but you don't show any mad alchemy skills? *RAGE*

oh wait...what were we talking about ?

:D
