Do people still take IGN seriously?
This and I've been an avid IGN reader since I was in my teens. This doesn't go for just video games but also their movie reviews. Not to say that I'm not going to read their review later today but Gamespot and IGN are the two I trust the least out of anyone that review ANYTHING.

Not every story will appeal to every reviewer. Unless he is actually discussing the technical merits of the story's construction then he's really just making a subjective judgment based on what appeals to him. In that case, you can really only conclude the story is weak if it lacks appeal across a broad swath of reviewers.

Excerpt from review and this is a fair comment.
"Like most BioWare games before it, Inquisition isn’t without its fair share of technical annoyances. Dialogue sequences would occasionally hang, interface elements would suddenly stop working, and sound would randomly cut out in the middle of battle. Most of these could be fixed with a quick reload, but those interruptions still took me out of the experience a little too often. A day-one patch is supposed to remedy many of these issues, but if you plan to play without updating, you’re in for a bumpy ride".
We already heard from the twitch stream that they are already working on launch day patch for all platforms . So any bugs reported could likely be taken care of by day 1 patch as they wanted the game out so they can patch it.

That is one of the more common criticisms actually. I read one or two that enjoyed the plot, but more common was criticism of how many tropes it played.

Every Bioware story is fairly poor. I've gotten used to it by now.
It's the companions that make it shine.

Criticising story is an easy cheap-shot when the reviewer has no other negative to mention, but also has no other reason to justify a score lower than 9. On the other hand, in his review-in-progress video he talked about how he pretty much focused on story and it took him 90 hours to play through the main quest. He also made a point to mention that he barely explored even the starting area The Hinterlands(which he spent around 20 hours in); sustaining a compelling story over a 90 hour campaign is a massive achievement, so there might be dips in quality in regards to story.
Can't wait to play it and decide for myself.

And he still gave it a very decent score, so it can't have been that huge of a problem.
Having said that, I wouldn't ****** on IGN if they were on fire.

says story payoffs sometimes dont come until many hours later, game has TONS of distractions from the main quest which can pull your attention, as you get engrossed in a side story and thus the main quest can less impact overall.
interesting stuff

Is it the same guy in the video at the top of IGN's review? Because he raved about how much he liked the game for 22 minutes.

The same Vincent Incognito (sic) who awarded the game 8.8/10? I think we're fine, thanks.
The number system in reviewing games is outdated and has no consistency.
I've seen reviews list off numerous major flaws in a game and turn around and award it a 9 simply because the consumers of video games see all games rated below 8 as being horrible pieces of garbage.
This crap arbitrary number system needs to go for any reviewer to be worth more than what I pick up after my dog does his business.

On the other hand, more than 1 reviewer has said the story beats Origins and DA2 to a pulp. Maybe Vincent Incognito just made the worst choices possible and ended up with a "meh" ending.
Honestly, for every reviewer saying the story is poor or lacking, there's at least 5 others saying the story is good and even more epic than origins and da2.
At the end of the day, it doesnt matter, when you play it, you can judge it by yourself, but i wouldnt put much weight in this reviewer words alone.
If you don't focus on a single line, the reviews that claims the story is lacking usually mention the lack of focus on it. Basically, they don't like the more open-world design which enforce a lack of focus on the main quest (we are back to BG1/BG2 less focused storytelling).
Another group seems to complain about it not being newcomer friendly (some positively other negatively) by bringing together elements from past games. This I take to mean that if you don't bother learning the setting lore, you will probably not understand what is going on much beside "bad kill, must kill".

Story is secondary to me in a Bioware game. The biggest point in a Bioware game for me is the characters. They are what drives the game for me.
Durhon I feel like your avatar is mocking mine... jk.
Story is primarily derived from the characters, a good narrative is made great by its characters not the other way around. I wonder how deeply most critics delved themselves into the characters, because if they spent little time with companions and characters the enhancement to the story was likely harmed. Imagine playing DA:O but never talking to companions at the camp, what a boring, unoriginal story there would be. I imagine the same hold true here.
