When it comes down to it, we don't know enough to say whether he's right or wrong. We've been entrenched in the Chantry and Dalish etc ideas of the veil and what's beyond it and both involve treating it with caution. Solas is the first voice that kind of opposes those ideas and suggests that a world with the veil gone could be viable and successful. Solas could be right as he's spent more time deeper in the Fade then anyone, but he's one person and a suspicious one at that. Plus his pride and certainty in his own knowledge doesn't necessarily mean what he says is correct. I think that'll end up being a major flaw of his, that pride.

And the Circle mages and Dalish never dove as deep into the Fade and studies as far as we know, so they don't really know the truth either. They just say what they assume is correct.

Basically, I don't know what to think. I'm going to err on the side of caution and did when talking to Solas, even if that netted me disapproval. I told him I find his ideas fascinating but expressed doubt and will continue to even if he doesn't like it. That pride of his, man.

Oh, yeah, I'm not on-board with his idea that the veil being gone will be necessarily a good thing (though I don't think it'll necessarily be a bad thing either). But his idea about the nature of spirits is what I believe is really revolutionary. However, I don't think it'll be as easy as bringing down the veil in order to change people's minds about spirits.

Now, if he had an organization like, say, the Inquisition backing up his ideas and providing them with some clout, then that might make some difference in people's minds.

I don't think he expects you to start believing him, which is why I'm not buying that he's trying to manipulate you or the Inquisition into his way of thinking as interesting as that concept would be. That would be pretty much impossible.  He's actually very surprised if you tell him you find his ideas fascinating and food for thought!

I still wonder about him and Cole. Cole has this kind of empathetic sense, so couldn't he tell if Solas was bad news? He must not be evil.

Understood :).
I'm curious to see more of This theory, even though at the moment I'm Not fully convinced of if.

And I, like Solas, am glad that you are willing to listen and debate it.  ^_^

Because asking questions is fun, and it's not good to just accept things wholeheartedly without questioning your own beliefs and preconceptions.

His name is "Pride", after all!  ;)

I feel like his approving every time you ask a question is part enthusiasm for his studies and part making up for the fact that a LOT of people are probably going to inadvertently make him disapprove by being suspicious of his beliefs.

I'm waffling between metagaming to make him happy or playing more along the lines of what your average Thedosian would think. Not to say he couldn't charm my Inquisitor into his way of thinking... he's charming me plenty, even though I'm also feeling kind of apprehensive about it. Don't break my heart, Solas....!!

No, I agree. I see it as being more gradual. I don't think my inquisitor is ever going to be as radical as Solas is, but I think he's going to cause her to rethink her preconceptions about spirits. And that's going to inform the sorts of decisions she makes, especially when it comes to Cole.

I think all of us are pretty torn at the moment, eh? On the one hand I believe him - I really like Cole, too, so that's something. They both will be core party members in my first playthrough.

But then there's the voice in my head that maybe Solas was just lucky enough to not encounter demons/spirits that were already tainted through something. And the suspicious looks. I never played the games though (started Origins, but I hardly have any time to play at the moment). I read a ton about the lore, but it often turns out that the world is neither black nor white.

Gosh, this character, man! Why are the cute nerdy traitors always my favs? It's not fair. But that's why I love him so much. He's so cute when the Inquisitor shows interest in his beliefs. And then he's the silent creeper in the background.

Woah, so I tried reading the whole thread but there's a lot and I was itching to ask questions too much. Has this been pretty much confirmed? I do remember that introduction video of the first conversation you can have with him where he talks about the Fade merging with the actual world to be a good thing... very interesting. If it's all true I'm going to try my best to let him redeem himself, especially if it was an accident.

All we know for certain is that he's a traitor. Well, I guess for a value of 'traitor' if the accident rumor is true.

Oh wow okay, so it is certain. Thanks for letting me know! I hope it's an accident... Solas is cute and nerdy and I like him. xD

Yeah. >_< It's ridiculous how perfect he is. I thought he was going to be an awkward nerd but he's actually a very well-spoken, confident nerd with a wry sense of humour.

I think he's probably going to be my favourite Bioware romance after Garrus (not counting Atton because he's not Bioware). And that's saying a lot.

And we almost didn't get him, too! I want to eventually try asking PW why he wanted to write Solas a romance.

I wasn't too interested in him at first, but he kept moving up on my radar until now he's in my top 3 LI's. :P I think it's because he's so unique... and there's never been an LI quite like this, not that I can remember at least. And I love his humor, ahaha.

And admittedly, knowing there's definitely something huge going on with him involved makes him even more intriguing to me. xD

Yeah, he's quite unlike anyone we've ever gotten before. I don't really know what to expect from the romance.

And I was definitely not expecting him to be as funny as he is.

One of the pieces from the sountrack is called "The lie in which you linger"
I wonder if it's related to Solas...

So a BSN user who got the strategy guide early has been posting impressions of the various romances in the Josie thread. Here's what they say about Solas:

Solas is mostly what you expect from a kind, noble brainiac, and it does seem like, to romance him, more often than other romance is, you are the one that really pushes it forward.

"Kind, noble brainiac"

Oh gosh

And it looks like Lavellan's going to have to take the lead on this one.

I've messaged them to ask if they can share more (non-spoilery) information about the romance. I don't really want to be spoiled for content, I just want more of an impression.
