I really don't think it will have anything to do with a wife...maybe he has had a relationship in the past but things didn't go well or something happened to her? I mean after all he is in his 40's it would be very surprising if he hasn't had a relationship with a woman at least once in the past. Just a guess.

I'm getting so excited to play this game oh my gosh. Though I've probably watched too many streams for my own good. I pretty much saw the entirety of Dorian's recruitment quest and it was pretty awesome. I both do and don't want to take Solas on it. I always want him in the party but

I was thinking of not taking Solas on that quest because I read in a guide that you have to take Dorian and I thought three mages was too much. Maybe I was dodging a bullet.

Mine is early 30s, so not that different, age-wise.
As for Dorian's recruitment, I would like to have Solas on that mission. Since Ulee will be a Rogue, no need to worry about imbalance, if I so choose. I haven't read or watched everything regarding that quest-line, but the bits I have picked up on, I am curious to see first hand, with Solas in the group. Hope it doesn't bite me in the arse.
I read that there's a part where bashing down a wall with a warrior saves you some trouble. You can still go around the long way though.

I don't think it matters who you take with you, really. It's just you have to see the ones you DO take with you after they've suffered.

The freed or tried thing is interesting. What does tried mean?
Also, what if Solas is the mage you can tranquilize? Even thinking about that makes me sick. That's probably something someone like Solas would fear most.
I think it means the demon was freed or he tried to free it. That's probably where you come in.
Or maybe we can act as the demon's defense attorney when it goes on trial.
This reminds me very much of Anders' situation, if you side with the Templars. You can convince him to join you, send him away, so he comes back to fight you, and simply kill him.
Making Solas tranquil would be the height of evil *cracks knuckles*
