Well with what ever he is trying to "fix" probably isn't to destroy the whole world. From what I've seen with Solas he want's to help people,do Good. Are you so darn eager to kill him or something? We don't know the whole story of him yet . Also I have said time and time again if you people want that sad dramatic ending go for it but I will and certainly others will be very livid if we don't get some sort of good ending and answers from him (which I think we will get). Plus Solas was weak when he gave Cory his orb why do you think he's helping to fix things if he is so evil why would he even help?
 
There is more to his story and I think we will get it in the near future, we might not know what it is at the moment but I don't think it's something evil. Yes he killed Flemeth but she looked like she let him do it willingly why? We don't know and hopefully we will get some answers one day soon. "That closure may well be having to kill him to keep him from "helping" any more."  <-------Your opinion is welcomed but I don't agree. The reason being is because I love DA games they give you choices "Happy ending" or Sad ending"  we didn't get any of that at the end he just broke up with our Lavellan and left with no explanation. I don't think he is planning on doing something evil he says he wants to help his people. 
 
 
Some of you want your gloomy ending,you want to kill Solas when we don't even know the answers yet go for it but I don't like that I don't want that choice. I also have heard Solas say they aren't gods so I don't know why people keep calling him a god.....

I couldn't kill Solas even if he turned out to be the one who started the first blight and corrupted the Golden City :'(.
Buuut I want a happy ending!!!!!

At this point, I wouldn't lock your thoughts into one outcome or another. We can certainly hope and guess, but there's just no way to know where the story will go. Its fun to speculate!

But I worry that anyone hoping for X ending, whether that's a happy one or a sad one, might be setting themselves up for disappointment.

I don't want to kill him. I also don't think he's evil. But he didn't need to be evil to give Corypheus the orb and nearly destroy the world. He doesn't need to be evil to cause harm. He just has to be willing to do it if it will achieve his goals.

 

I really don't think that this is a story that's bound for a happy ending. I would be very happy if it could have a happy ending but I don't think that's where it's going.

 

It looks like he may not be back at all actually. I just talked to Cole for the first time after the end and there's this:

 

"I'm sorry, Cole, but with your gift, I fear that you might see the path I now have to walk in solitude forever. This fate is mine alone. Indeed, I would not wish it on an enemy, much less someone that I once cared for. Though you reach out in compassion, I must now insist that you forget."

 

 

And how do you know there isn't a happy ending?...right you don't know. There have always been choices in DA good or bad. I'm getting tired of people arguing that it's going to end in a bad ending period. We don't know what we are going to get when we see Solas again but I want that happy choice.

 

And I think we will, DA is much better at giving choices to the player than ME.

I never said I did? I'm just bringing up the possibility that there might not be and, yeah, my personal belief is that it isn't going to end well - forget the romance, I don't think Solas's story can have a happy ending. I would be very happy to be wrong though.

 

I wonder what he meant by "the path I have to walk in solitude forever" though. That's an interesting new dimension that's making me rethink my "probably going to be a villain" theory.

What I think when he says that is that his job to help the people is too dangerous for anybody and he doesn't want Lavellan (his heart) and friends to be a part of it cause he's afraid they will die...er that's what I think. I don't think he's a villain he's too sweet to be a villain.

For me, I don't really worry if it is a happy ending or a sad ending. It is a story, it will unfold as it does and chances are I will enjoy it regardless. I quite like Solas as a character! So long as they don't kick him off the slippery slope and into outright villainy, I am likely to be satisfied with whatever comes. 

 

I can see avenues for sad endings, and I can see plenty of avenues for happy endings. But I still feel that anyone getting too emotionally involved will find themselves in trouble. I suppose this could be said of any media. Dragon Age is a game that gives the player a certain amount of authorship...but, by and large it is an illusion. We are still playing narrative, just a narrative that has a lot of varying outcomes. 

 

It is better to keep an open mind. But, there's no harm in letting a writer know that you enjoyed the story, or that you would really like the opportunity to have X outcome. Fan demand is still a powerful force. 

 

 

 

As for the 'path of solitude' line- I am going to guess that his people [whether they be gods, spirits, or ancient elves], will likely hate him for having sealed them away in the first place. So no matter what Solas does, he will be hated and he will be alone. Just speculating, but, that was my read on it.

Speculation and theorizing are things that happen when you're left with that kind of cliffhanger. So long as it's in relation to Solas and spoilers (at least until a reasonable amount of time has passed to take the discussion back to the main thread), it's fine to talk about here.

 

I'm not invested in a sad ending. I'm not going to throw things if I don't get it. I just think, given what little information we've got, that it's very likely that that's what will happen. Speculation!

It's not as if BioWare hasn't forced a bad ending in the past, even in a romance. If it fits the story to do so and doesn't fit the story to allow a happy ending, then they won't give us that choice. Bear in mind that Solas's romance IS only available to a very small percentage of players.

 

As much as I love DA, I can't begin to pretend that all choices ended up mattering or that there was always a "happy" choice. It's not about everyone wanting a bad end and constantly insisting that it will end badly, it's making a pretty reasonable prediction based on possible trajectory. What Solas wants could very well be world-breaking. World-breaking in a way BioWare might not want to tackle unless they don't plan on making more games in the DA series.

Plus what he did was world breaking also. I just want a good closure/ending I don't want this to end up a Thane 2.0 romance where BW makes the choice for you and ends it just like that.

 

And I hope DA doesn't go down the route like ME did.

The lack on closure, love scene and kiss anytime you want makes me think their playing the long game with his romance in future dlc. However it ends or our choices, I'm hoping for a heartbreaking bittersweet love making scene filled with desperation and possible naked elf back. Preferably in the fade.

If its done right, well worth the wait. His romance is my favorite because it had so much emotion poured into it. Those kisses... Very passionate. *sigh*

I really think they may have already finished or are working hard on a massive story dlc. It's left very open general story speaking.

I think that's what everyone wants, haha. The Thane romance had a terrible ending but maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if it didn't just feel like they didn't want to focus on all the romances they created and had to kill some off. ME was clearly only prioritizing some romances to save resources so other romance stories just came off as ham-fisted methods of getting them out of the picture so they didn't have to work too hard on them.

 

If Solas's bad ending had care put into it, at least that would be somewhat satisfying. Though I'd prefer a happy choice too, I just can't imagine his story ending in any way that's not super bittersweet at best. What Solas can probably do and what Anders did are entirely different animals.

They kill him off in ME3. He was sick and they hinted at a cure in a DLC but forgot that Thane was an LI and had him die.

 

At least Garrus's romance helped with sadness. Still that was cruel.

Given how important Solas was to the plot, I don't think they're going to do what was done to Thane (and Jacob, really) to him. After the after credits scene, I don't think they're going to "forget" he was an LI or write him off to save resources. But his plot importance also means that he may have a place in the canon that can't be changed.

That's good advice. And let's always say it was a good romance, and him a good character, or we will have Jacob 2.0.

Thane's phate by the way have always prevented me from continuing a run where I had a Shepard that romanced him in ME3.

she lost Kaidan on Virmine, so she was heartbroken like Thane. I liked the fact that they mendend each other wounds...but having her suffer again the SAME thing in ME3 will never be an option for me, and I have never had the will to play again all the games just to spare Kaidan for ME3.

 

I like angst and bitter, but only if there is a good piece of sweet to make balance.

I did a Thane romance and was satisfied with how it was written. It was always clear how that romance was going to play out, and it still felt complete.

 

With Solas, I always had my doubts about the romance arc ending happily. Until the Temple of Mythal, I believed Solas was either an ancient elf or that he was dying. In either case I expected there to be limited time he'd be able to spend at Lavellan's side. And that would have been fine.

 

After the temple, I became more convinced he was dying and he'd end up making a heroic sacrifice at the last of it, only to die in the Inquisitor's arms. That also would have been fine. Except no, he just left and the game left more questions than answers.

 

Still, I try to keep my little flame of optimism burning, trusting that Bioware completes a story good or bad. Solas did say he would explain everything after Corypheus was defeated if they were both still alive. Maybe there is still hope for that. Knowing he would still have the matter of the orb to deal with, which if lost could yet result in his death... Perhaps he wanted to have that resolved before coming back to talk to Lavellan.
