Hoarders... are usually people with problems.

hoarders-gif.gif

I get it though. I still don't think it'll be as big a deal as people believe, and it'll really be a thing of taste, i.e. I LIKE HAVING STORAGE over I NEED STORAGE. Personally I keep my inventory sterile, junk I'm not using is stuff I can liquefy for other expenses. Then again I play a lot of jrpgs so meh. So what's all this about modders not be able to mod this game? Didn't the first two not have any mod support at all but end up having some modding done to them anyway? We can't we assume the same.

Thanks for adding some sanity to the discussion, though others have done so as well to be fair.

Dragon Age Origins had extensive mod support, dragon age 2 did not have a mod kit but people were still able to work with it

If the crafting items don't count towards inventory, that would be good enough. Even that wouldn't be a game-breaker, it would just mean I'd have to be organized enough to be able to remember where to farm certain ingredients if I had a goal towards making something I find out about later. Equipment, I usually equip better equipment right away and only hold on to something else if it looks "specialized", like for something major like a dragon fight. Otherwise, I get rid of the junk and makes my money. There's always some items you can buy that are awesome, and then some you can only get through drops, if they remain true to that formula. I always feel proud of my little self when I have a nice, clean, efficient inventory with little hoarder value.

That's cool if it's your playstyle, but it's not mine; I like to be equipped for every contingency. I'm replaying Origins right now and I have a backpack of 125 capacity and party storage chest of the same and both are almost full of weapons, armour, runes, and small items of story significance that the characters would never sell or give away (Sword of Highever for example) even though they have little actual functional use. Having constantly cull items just to make space detracts from my game experience.

While this probably won't be a big deal for me, I'll admit I generally hate inventory micromanagement of any kind.

And items that break in games?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I sort of want to just equip stuff and forget.

A 60 item inventory limit, and no storage chest anywhere in the game....  There are only two ways I see this playing out:

1) I rarely, if ever, reach the inventory limit because there are very few weapon/armor pieces found in loot...

2) I hit the inventory limit every 30 minutes(like clockwork) because I'm getting weapons and armor everywhere...

I don't particularly find any "good" in either option, but if I had to choose, I'd rather have the former than the latter... While I despise the idea of being forced to use the crafting system, I'd prefer it to the game forcing me to return to Skyhold every 30 minutes to sell items in order to clear out my inventory... Sure, I could use the shops in whatever zone I'm in, but if I ever want to buy any of it back I'd likely need to sell it in Skyhold(assuming the shops in Skyhold are like Bodahn in DAO, and they don't reset)...

Just another boneheaded decision.

I got the storage chest mod in Origins as soon as it was available. As the reviewer said, you collect gear you can't use yet because it is over leveled. Where do you put that? Sell a  potentially useful item and then do without by the time you can use it? origins has about 15 DLC items you have no immediate use for. Some of them end game. Did people carry those around for 20 levels, and thought that was ok? really?

The need for a storage chest is obvious. I fill mine with gifts I cant hand out yet, potions I don't need to carry around, runes and gems I'm saving to give the allies box.. all sorts of reasons to hoard stuff.

I am well aware of the modding support for the games, but not if there was any official toolkit released because I am a user, not a modder, and it has never been much of a concern. Before developers caught on modding was an all community thing.

A 60 item inventory limit, and no storage chest anywhere in the game...

It's not entirely limited since you can upgrade your inventory space if the need arises.

@AshenEndymion: You can sell in the field... you don't have to go to shops.

But if we sell it in the field, will we be able to buy it back?

Bodahn was a de facto storage chest in DA:O because you could sell anything you wanted to him, and he would keep it in the "Buy Back" section for when you wanted to retrieve it. You gained money for selling it, but lost that money for "retrieving" it, so it worked out to a zero balance in the end.

If the Skyhold merchants work the same way, it might be possible to use them as storage. But if you sell things in the field and there's no merchant to retrieve them from, they'd be gone forever.

Seriously, Bioware?

If this crops up as non-free DLC, I will break out the torches and pitchforks. Why in the blazes would you not put a storage chest in by default?

you are just deathly afraid of paid DLC, aren't you? You're the first to bring it up everytime we notice an oversight...

Anyway, yeah, they definitely should have thought of this, especially considering that Gamlen's shack had one from the beginning in DAII...

@virtus753:  That I have no idea about... but you CAN make purchases in the field as well it seemed.

Why did you need so much gear in Origins?  This is an actual question - not saying you didn't need it.

And can you buy items back from the "sell in the field" shop?  If not, the point still stands...

It's not entirely limited since you can upgrade your inventory space if the need arises.

I know it can be upgrade to 90...  But, I highly doubt that it's like Origins where you can purchase enough backpacks in the first 2 hours to max out that limit...  Especially since upgrading inventory space costs one of the three Inquisition currencies... And I doubt they'll be growing on trees in the first 10 hours of the game.

Good to know we'll have merchants available throughout, but I suppose we'll have to see if those merchants reset or not. Bodahn only worked the way he did because he never reset after that first time back to camp, so you could always get your stuff back.

honestly I don't see the big deal in older games it was this way and you did not have a chest however it was in Bg2 granted when I picked stuff and store it I forget all about it. I am used to selling what I don't need 60 inventory is more then enough.

Did people really buy things back regularly?

Once you upgraded your gear... why would you ever go backward?

No storage will certainly be annoying.  I'm glad crafting items don't take up space at least.

I just hope there's a way to grind for currency in this. The first 2 games didn't really have any way of doing that...

I think I've used buyback once or twice, in all the different games I've played that had the option - only in the instance where I accidentally sold something I needed. If it's there, great. If not, I just try really hard not to be dumb enough to sell something I need.

I am assuming the mechanic is necessary to help the player accumulate wealth, and chances are you won't need to keep equipment you are not using, I am a compulsive seller, my inventory has to be really organized and clean.

Well, when it's a publisher/developer combo that's got a history of doing it.."those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" and all that.

Selling junk in the field is great news. Destroying pantaloons and broomsticks in DA2 to make room in the inventory was nothing but annoying.

The lack of a storage chest on the other hand is not. I don't think it'll be a huge problem or anything, and I don't think people are getting so worked up about it because they think it will be. At least for me, it's primarily about there being absolutely no reason imaginable for them not to give us that effing storage chest?

As long as we automatically get the blueprints for items and weapons, I'm okay with selling off stuff I'm not using.  If things like mounts and Skyhold furniture and blueprints work as unlockables rather than items, as I suspect, I'd have even less reason to be concerned.  Crafting items in DA2 weren't part of the main inventory, so it might be similar to that.
