Since when were Hawke and Stroud friends? They've met, what, twice in six years? And why would the Wardens be the go-to persons to learn more about red lyrium? Hawke discovered it and the strange thaig it was in. The Wardens didn't know of it. And when the Fade adventure is over Hawke travels all the way to Weisshaupt to inform the Wardens of what happened? They can't write a letter for that? Send a courier? Hawke is back to being errand boy? Why was Hawke needed for this plot at all if that's how they leave: either dead in the Fade or off to Weisshaupt? The whole "Corypheus is my responsibility, I need to deal with him because I set him loose!" rings hollow too then if Hawke doesn't even get the chance to see it through. So what's left then? Just the opportunity to kill Hawke off?

 

I agree with a lot of what you say in this post...but I can think of one reason why the Wardens might know about red lyrium.

 

My understanding of the DA2 plot was that Anders stole a map of a thaig that the Wardens were already planning an expedition to, the Primeval Thaig.  That doesn't necessarily clinch that the Wardens knew about red lyrium being present, but they may have done.

 

In addition to that, Nathaniel's expedition to the thaig was ordered by the First Warden.  In that quest, he mentions the Wardens "new allies", who assured them the Darkspawn wouldn't be a problem at that level of the Roads. It's possible even if they didn't know about red lyrium before then, that they may have acquired some during the third act expedition, and had time to study it.

 

I'm guessing BioWare hasn't clarified on either of those issues in DA:I, and I realise those are all very "conjectuery" arguments.  I'm bringing them up mostly because I had hoped we'd get some more answers in DA:I about what was going on with the Wardens.  I'll admit it, I'm a Warden-lore nerd, and I want moar.

 

I have a personal theory that something or someone sent them on the trail to red lyrium, for reasons still unknown.  Corypheus would be a main suspect...except he was presumably still asleep at the time and thus unable to affect tainted beings outside of the Vinmark Chasm.  Which also rules him out as the Warden's "new ally".

 

Which is an interesting point.  Some people have suggested that the reference to new allies means the Architect and his followers, and that it shows up even if you kill the Architect due to some kind of bug (don't know how true that is).  I always killed the Architect...but if he lived, would he take kindly to Corypheus stripping him of his allies?  I could see that going a lot of different ways...on the one hand, Corypheus is kinda the progenitor of the Darkspawn.  On the other hand, he's a dangerous lunatic on a par with an Archdemon.  Could the Architect resist his call?

 

I think we may need a Grey Warden's thread, to discuss all the things that are either resolved or unanswered from DA:A and DA2 in DA:I.

Hmm, Anders doesn't explicitly say the Wardens were planning an expedition to Primeval Thaig, just that they were planning their own expedition into the Deep Roads. The maps were to find an entrance; it was Bartrand's leads that led the expedition to the forgotten thaig. It's still possible the Wardens were aware of the lyrium or the thaig and were searching for it, though, but it seems unlikely.

 

Didn't Nathaniel's quest into the Deep Roads fail? Which was why Hawke had to come to the rescue? But maybe the Wardens returned with even more men later to get what they came for. 

 

I do like your theory. I have no idea how much information DA:I provides on these issues. My guess would be not a lot. The Architect should be dead if you kill him... I hope... Utha died too, so he couldn't body hop to her, but there were four other Wardens right there when he died. Oh no, ahahaha, that would suck if the Architect has taken over our Warden's body! Go away with your theories! Assuming the Architect lives, though, what made him and his free darkspawn special was that they did no longer hear the call of the old gods. The Architect never heard it to begin with, so I guess that would make him immune to any influence Corypheus normally has through the taint? They seemed very similar, so if they are both corrupted magisters they probably can't manipulate each other. 

 

Now that you bring it up, we probably do need a thread like that. This topic got me thinking again about the small group of Wardens you meet during the Qunari invasion in DA2. They hurry off because there's something very important they have to do. Any clue what that would have been? Could be related to the red lyrium, I suppose, but would that be so urgent they can't even help kill a few more ox-men?

During Varric's quest we get to know, that red lyrium - is a lyrium, infected with Blight. And that it's alive.

So Red Templars is basically magically infused darkspawn.

Bull's companion quest ends with you being allowed to make an alliance with the Ben-hassrath. However, Bull's Chargers get caught in an ambush which they can't be rescued from lest the alliance be risked. Thus, the choice becomes saving the Chargers or making an alliance with the Ben-Hassrath

Agree, and it doesn't seems like anything serious is happen at least from Sera's part. I think this is from middle of the romance, but I hope Sera will finally be seriously about the relationship later on...this look very shallow. Poor Inquisitor.

Just skip to 1:50. Beware this contain the entire epilogue slideshow, basically Cass reform a new Templar Order, a new Circle of Magi. While the Seeker of Truth are rededicated to their purpose of protecting the innocent. A proclamation of support for the Inquisition is issued, recognizing its service to all of Thedas. Much like Leliana despite her popularity, her reform are seen by some as going too far.

 

You should know that this could be a problem in case in your world state the Inquisition's mage lead by Fiona refuse to join the new Circle of Magi, they instead form a new order of their own and they clashed with the Circle of Magi which likely led to a war between the mages. (goddamnit Fiona.)
