If it's going to be Cory, Hawke seriously will be the most unfortunate "hero" ever. Red lyrium, being made responsible for the mage/templar war and releasing the one who opened the Breach.

Also since they haven't done anything to hide the images of the guy and what not, thinking he's not the Big Bad.  Though he is probably working with the Elder One.

I notice that none of the reviewers so far have had any real complaints about the big bad, beyond one comment that you need to understand the lore to get it. So I still maintain Cory is just the big bad's primary agent and the big bad himself is an old god

 

There have been complaints about the overall story which arguably does tie heavily into who the big bad is.

I think Cory is just a mini-boss related to why we fight the gray wardens. If I had to guess, just like in the DA 2 DLC, Cory will corrupt wardens into doing his biding. Whatever that is, it will be the reason the Inquisiton ends up fighting the Wardens.

Really if Cory is the big bad, which I don't believe. I honestly do not mind. We fought cory when he was sleeping and barely awoken, and even then it was really obivious he survived. Who knows what he's like at his full power, he is an ancient tevinter magister after all, one of the few who ever touched the golden city

To be fair, a lot of reviews say that there is a turning point when the Inquisition goes from something of necessity to a personal quest.  I'm guessing that  old corphy attacks Haven in Dragon form (as some screen shots from reviews show this), and starts openly attacking Thedas, but that in the end he isn't really the Elder One.  I agree that it seems kind of lazy to use another name to refer to a character that has a name already.  That laziness wouldn't be a deal breaker for me though, as long as the rest of the story holds together.  Based on what we've seen I am guessing that Corphy in dragon form also attacks you at Redcliffe, which is fairly early on in the game, so he might be the primary face of the antagonist, but he seems to be trying to do something to gain power (beyond his new found dragon form), and you've become a rival to this power somehow.  That implies that there is some source of that power, and that could be really interesting even if that source isn't some Elder One and Corphy is the only big bad.  If he turns into a dragon though, the new name could makes sense, as he'd need a new name for his newly found 'godhood'.  It'd be the kind of excessive arrogance you expect from a crazy magister, wanting to go by a cool new name to befit his cool new dragon shape shifting.

I don't think Corypheus is the big bad. In Legacy you can use the alter of Dumat. Corypheus calls to Dumat to 'give him power' during his fight with Hawke. He is a disciple of Dumat. And the wardens just assume that because the AD is gone at the end when a warden takes it's head, no one truly knows what happens to it's soul. I think the Elder One is Dumat.

The Elder One's dialogue that you hear in the prologue (its eerie, otherworldly tone and the choice of words), gives it an air of something bigger than Cory (though it's impossible to measure the power of the magister lords that entered the Golden City, or rather the power they gained after they changed).

 

Which makes me think the Elder One is Dumat (or another Archdemon) inhabiting Cory, like the way Cory possesses Janeka/Larius (similar to the Harbinger in Mass Effect, lol).

 

Or Cory have just matured considerably since Legacy, which makes me wonder if we'll see a similar change in the Architect...

Could the mage be Janeka and the mutant Larius, possessed by Cory? Or they are two other poor souls that Cory possesses dependent on your choices, choices that seems to affect the final battle.

 

It's not Janeka or Larius if the reviewer did the final battle on the same character (with the same world state).

I think the antagonist of DA:I is Cory, and if one of the theories in this thread is true about Cory being just a minion of the Elder One, then the truth of that won't be revealed until the next DA game, possibly.

 

Cory is btw in one of the DA:I achievement portraits.

Andraste. Only by killing this powerful entity in the Fade can you ultimately save Thedas. However, since she is the one who gave you the power in your left hand, you have to choose whether to accept her offer of further power in exchange for not killing her, or kill her and lose all your power. Your choice will be very important in Dragon Age 4.

It won't be Corypheus; he is in the game, and a threat/focus at one point in the campaign (and likley why Hawke comes into it; and may be the leader of these rebel Tevinter mages), but he's refered to by name. It would make no sense for the narrative to call him 'The Elder One' for what appears to be the first third of the game, then call him Corypheus the later 2/3rds because we all know of Corypheus being out there; it wouldn't be much of a reveal at all because we expected to come across him in DA:I. I'd say it's more probably someone unknown, or unexpected...like, say...the Maker. I think that'd make sense, actually; the Maker is a rather neglectful 'diety', and whilst we assume Andraste was his wife and herald, we're ignoring the fact that she didn't win that war, and history is written by the victor; what if she was actually leading a band AGAINST the Maker-backed Imperium, and the Chantry is a lie - a cult organised a thousand years ago, the true purpose of which is unknown to but a few, perhaps not even the Grand Divine? The strings being pulled by a few in Tevinter, perhaps. The Chant of Light 'must spread' - but what comes forth when the entire world believes, calls - no, summons the Maker back to our world? Remember, Corypheus said that the Golden City was black and corrupt - who is to say that it was ever anything different..?

This snippet was not about the final boss, but consequences of your choices. I believe depending if you side with templars or mages you get a different boss - mage or red lyrium mutant - when cleaning up remaining faction.
