I'm more interested in the post-credits scene that so many people have mentioned at this point. One review called it "Marvel-esque"... since I haven't watched a Marvel movie since Spiderman back in 2001 or something I have no idea what that means.

It won't be Corypheus; he is in the game, and a threat/focus at one point in the campaign (and likley why Hawke comes into it; and may be the leader of these rebel Tevinter mages), but he's refered to by name. It would make no sense for the narrative to call him 'The Elder One' for what appears to be the first third of the game, then call him Corypheus the later 2/3rds because we all know of Corypheus being out there; it wouldn't be much of a reveal at all because we expected to come across him in DA:I. I'd say it's more probably someone unknown, or unexpected...like, say...the Maker. I think that'd make sense, actually; the Maker is a rather neglectful 'diety', and whilst we assume Andraste was his wife and herald, we're ignoring the fact that she didn't win that war, and history is written by the victor; what if she was actually leading a band AGAINST the Maker-backed Imperium, and the Chantry is a lie - a cult organised a thousand years ago, the true purpose of which is unknown to but a few, perhaps not even the Grand Divine? The strings being pulled by a few in Tevinter, perhaps. The Chant of Light 'must spread' - but what comes forth when the entire world believes, calls - no, summons the Maker back to our world? Remember, Corypheus said that the Golden City was black and corrupt - who is to say that it was ever anything different..?

 

DG has said several times that they will never confirm or deny The Maker's existance. So that theory is useless.

I am dreading this marvel like ending a bit, since it means it will end in a cliffhanger and perhaps you won't even get to fight the real antagonist since the big baddie may show his face in the epilogue first and you have to wait for the expansion to fight him/it. Please tell me you get closure at the end and get to fight the one behind all this. i really need to know!

The big-bad of Dragon Age Inquisition is indeed Corypheus, however, at the end of the game, he summons a huge/giant/colossal dragon (assumed to be Dumat)--Corypheus is the Herald of the Old God, Dumat--that, the Inquisition DOES NOT defeat in the base vanilla game. BioWare is either saving him for DLC, or, saving him/it for future installments.

The marvel endings arent exactly cliffhangers, they are just teases.

That is the legend.  In truth, no one knows what happens to the Old God who is killed by a Grey Warden.  It could be their soul is obliterated or it could be it is banished deep into the fade.  Bioware has said "the Elder One has been hatching this plan for a long time".  It may be it's not Dumat, but it's as interesting a theory as some of the others floating around.

Guess I will find out for myself soon enough.

You do know this is BioWare we are talking about right? I like them a lot, but come on, I wouldn't put stuff like this past them.

It may just be a name given to him by the Inquisition until we find out who he really is.

This makes sense. I mean, it's probably what the Venatori call him as a sign of deference. The Inquisition doesn't actually know what the Elder One is until dramatic plot event occurs, at which time it's entirely plausible that the name is revealed to you.

His goal is to call forth Dumat, or at least, an Old God. He's not the boss of this movement, he's the Herald of the boss (The Elder One), who you see a glimpse of at the games ending. He is, however, the big-bad of the game itself.

Damnit, am I the only one who did not think he was interesting? I found his character so typical. To find out he is the the big bad, it's just pathetic imo. Was actually hoping for a new, mysterious enemy. Not this.

If the Elder One is Dumat, it doesn't have to actually fully 'be' Dumat. It could very well be something new, that defines itself as the Elder One specifically because it isn't Dumat anymore, but something else, something more. Through this story (whether in base game or in DLC/expansion), we may understand what the nature of the Darkspawn itself may be.

What if Corypheus uses that orb thing to summon the Elder One, instead of him actually being it. Just seems weird that he's known as Corypheus then all of a sudden it's "the Elder One".

 

 

Makes Perfect sense for him to not go by name, If he did that then he is the Grey Warden's problem, then he has a huge badass army with half the planet in their pocket gunning for him, This way he flies under their radar and they can claim to have zero responsibility to help in all this because it doesn't involve the darkspawn. which would also explain him using demons instead of darkspawn,
