He isn't the main main villain, but he is the main villain of Inquisition and the antagonist. The main main villain is what is summoned at the end of the game, and who you see just before the game ends on a cliffhanger, Marvel-esque scene.

One reviewer wrote ''There’s enough to keep you occupied until the inevitable DLC expansions start releasing.'' so i hope main villian is part of expansion or dlc :D

i wrote to a guy on Xboxculture who has played through the game and I though I should post this, since many are discussing if the game ends with a cliffhanger and doesn't give you closure. This here eased my mind at least. Here is what I wrote to him and his answer:

My question:

Hi

I've read you're excellent review of Dragon Age: Inquisition and it just made me even more excited to get to play the game. I have a few questions though and I hope you can answer these.

I am a bit worried that the game ends with a cliffhanger. You properly aren't allowed to tell me who the final boss is(if you are please do) but I just need reasurence that you get closure at the end of the main storyline like you did in origin. I've read in you're review that it has a marvel esque epilogue after the credits and I really fear that is is a cliffhanger. So it is really this? I hope you get to fight the great evil that is causing all this in the game and that the really big baddie doesn't show up in the epilogue and you have to wait for the expansion to fight him or it. I am really so excited for this game but I am a bit worried that the ending leaves you hanging and doesn't give you closure. That was the first question.

His answer

1. Thanks for the compliment, after 0 comments all week I was starting to get worried people didn't like it.

2. Don't worry you get closure. The ending seems to lead to a piece of DLC but has nothing to do with the main enemy of the game. You get complete closure on that account. If you played both Origins and II you will love this game. So many great cameos and storylines.

If by giving closure the guy means you defeat the main antagonist of the game, sure, however, you don't defeat the true master in the base game of Inquisition, which, leaves the base, vanilla game to end in post-credit scene cliffhanger, that, must be resolved either through DLC or through a future installment of the series.

And how is this supposed to work with postgame content?

Expansion pack set after the end of the game, Seriously this is exactly what Diablo 2 did and no one is complaining there, heck even Origins reveald that there was a bigger power behind the blight then the archdemon, at least this time we get us some foreshadowing,

Dumat was the Archdemon killed in the first Blight.

Dumat was finally slain by Grey Wardens at the Battle of Silent Fields in -203 Ancient (992 TE), the Wardens having learned by that point that only a death blow dealt by one of their Order would prevent the archdemon's resurrection in a new host body.

I can remember when DA2 was released in 2011 (I think?). Many people raged and were very angry at Bioware. They wanted exploration, open world, customization of weapons and armour, crafting etc. And when Bioware gives these people all they ever wanted, people still complain? Bioware this times around gives us - it seems - a final antagonist to be defeated and the game then ends when we have defated this antogonist. Something most people have wanted - it seems - since Bioware relased DA2 way back in 2011.  And Bioware still gets complaints from people?  I don't get it. But this just shows, as my mom, always said: you shouldn't give all the people what they want all the time. They'll just complain...

On topic:

I'm fine with the big bad in this game being who it is. (if it is?) I have sort of guessed it mysefl somewhat....since the ending of the Legacy DLC. To me, it was clear that we would see the person we're talking about here again...

Edit:

As far as Dumat goes, yes, this archdemon maybe dead. But who is to say that the Elder One isn't another old god?

Well, what do you want? A set of completely disconnected self-contained stories set in the same world?

Not my preference. The Marvel setup is unsatisfactory because they don't know where they're going and there will never be an end to the chain, but the DA team knows where their overarching story will end, if they'll be able to make the games. At least that's what was said in some interview a few months ago.

No offense but the Mass Effect dev team said the exact same thing.

He was introduced in Legacy. You can read about him on the timeline on the DAI site or world of Thedas book. There where many hints that it would be him, some people just didn't want to admit that he was  going to be the main antagonist.

HellaciousHutch there is still somethng you are missing, since how can Corypheus summon a giant dragon when he is dead??? Also why do you assume that the dragon is the old god Dumat. I could be just another dragon. From my source it seems that it is dlc material and if it is Dumat, he wonøt exactly be covered in a dlc pack I'm sure, rather a huge expansion or a whole new game. Also many reviewers say that it is dlc material. None mention sequels or expansions pack.

And you haven't even played through the game, so I cannot understand how you can be so sure in you're case, since your sources doesn't seem that reliable

There are other ways to know things at this point.

And the continuation will likely come in whichever form is deigned most financially and critically feasible apropos to the sales of the game. I doubt reviewers of any kind know for sure which route BioWare will take here, unless there's literally a message window at the end of the scene informing them verbatim -- which there probably is not.

The summoning of a More Powerful Something amid death throes is a really common fantasy trope, by the way. So yeah.

Believing them unequivocally is not wise. Believing the possibility they're correct is not unwise. 4chan and NeoGAF are full to bursting with spoilers, I hear.

Did you play Mass Effect? The antagonist carried over 3 games and a bunch of DLC. Baldur's Gate had the same issue drag on for 2 games and 2 expansions.  I don't see  it as a cliffhanger.

Yes, but Mass Effect was trilogy, which revolves around 1 character, Shepard, in the DA:I sequel we will probably have, new companions, we will create another character, but once again have same antagonist, but if we could resume with same Inquisitor, i guess that would be okay.
