I have read a review this morning on mmorpg dot com that mentions that the game has too many specular high lights and plate armor can look like it's made of Tin foil.

Is there any way to turn down these effects? I think a feature like this would be good for those of us annoyed by things like this.

There will be a way to customize your settings to turn that down in game.  I think too many particle effects and such can be a pain, even if your computer can handle it.  My guess is the folks at mmorpg probably played the game on max settings to really test out the graphics.
