I thought it was in that town where the Sacred Ashes are, but apparently thats just where the game starts.

That's Haven, I want to say the Skyhold is farther North than that, but still close enough to keep an easy on the Breach and the lands around it... At least that would make the most sense to me....

I believe they have said it is somewhere within the frostback mountains.
so right in between Ferelden and Orlais, and that kinda makes sense to me.

Thats not haven, Haven is in the southern part of the Frostbacks while Skyhold is in the northern part of the Frostbacks. Skyholds location has already been show in streams.
