@FrogDog And the Opponents commit the exact same logical fallacy of appealing to emotion every time the words "sin" and "gay" are mentioned in the same sentence, which leaves us with the same question. Why shouldn't we have gay marriage?

You'd have to ask an opponent, wouldn't you?

Like I said earlier, I don't care about gay marriage one way or the other and I've already expressed my belief that gays should have the same financial benefits under the law as a married couple. That is, after all, the part of a legal marriage that matters and the crux of the issue. The flowery talk about two loving people is irrelevant since nothing is keeping those two people apart, and love has never been a requirement of marriage.

The only cool people in Europe are Italians and Greeks (and possibly those in the Iberian Peninsula).

The last time either of them were 'cool' was 1600+ years ago

I think they should just abolish state-sanctioned marriage altogether. Let the state handle it as something like civil unions instead and keep the churches and religious pomp out of it. Simple and to the point.

@Inquisitor Recon And again you miss the point. It's not what they do at these parades, it's the point of these parades. And would you complain if straight people had the same thing and did the exact same things as people do at pride parades?

And the point is just as crazy as what I wrote. If anything parades exist so people can do what they do at parades. I think most of the Irish recognize that Saint Patrick's Day parades (and the day itself) are primarily there to provide another reason to drink heavily and behave like Irishmen and I can respect that.

I'm for marriage equality, but I did lol here. Did we suddenly become r/atheism with the edgy Christian bashing and lack of self awareness?

For what it's worth, I don't think Recon is Christian. The only deity Recon worships is some cartoon pony he has degenerate sexual desires with. His apparent prudishness is just a way of concealing the fact that he is a sick fak.

Zen was probably wearing a fedora when he wrote that. And your >implications about ponies are false and a sign that you are a sick fak with some creepy obsessions.

I suppose after the Roman Empire there isn't really a point in trying anymore because you can't best that. Hence Italian politics.

The average chief executive in Italy lasts less than a year.

The best Roman emperors were in power for decades.

I would probably believe that gay pride parades are all about solidarity and all that jazz. But, I think they're just giant parties, where certain special groups can sometimes advertise themselves. The mainstream image would have floats from churches along with drag queens, shirtless bears, and dancing half-naked Trevors, Tylers, and Joshes. Beneath that is an undercurrent of debauchery that's not unusual in gay clubs. The clubs become giant market places for men in tank tops to shop for a one night stand.

Some gay men have outgrown that, and others become disenchanted with them. They're convinced that gay prides no longer have meaning, and all younger gays care about is their top-bottom identities and the next time they can score a drink and a man rather than the appreciation of gay rights struggles.

4. Prissy gay men utterly preoccupied about their role in coitus

"Jesus Christ, stop feeding me beans! Can't you tell I'm a bottom?" :snicker:

Does r/atheism give you a euphoric feeling? Wearing a fedora sure gives somebody an odd idea of "logic and reason". Or is it the diet of cheetos that does that?

Oh, something that has bugged for quite some time now. Ammo prices. Ammo prices have risen slowly but steadily in the last couple years, seems like the sky is the limit.

The main thing that occurs to me right now is when people who have an expertise in one area somehow get appointed as authorities on other subjects mostly unrelated to their original area of expertise. The main culprits that come to mind are guys like Richard Dawkins, the Oxford evolutionary biologist, and Sam Harris, a neuroscientist, somehow becoming 'experts' on religion, philosophy and Middle East politics.

Sure, I could be a great many of things. But I'm not.

Also not sure whether you're implying people get pissed off at atheists simply for being atheists? (because those people are ignorant sheep) or just over-generalizing and saying that because I'm an atheist I'm obviously someone who pisses people off with it?

And if you don't think there are people who hate you for being agnostic, you're wrong.

Wouldn't know about the fedora. Never wore one.

I'd say there is something satisfying about knowing you've put some thought into something, and came to a conclusion that can be backed by reality.

I'll just mention that the way some atheists carry themselves rubs a lot of people the wrong way. An unhealthy obsession with religion in general conversation and spewing venom at religious people (or people who won't "take sides") gives rise to the "militant atheist" stereotype, and makes people shy away from the label as well as those who carry it - myself included.

I could say the same for religion and religious people.

Can't remember the last time I had an atheist knock on my door to tell me I'm going to suffer for eternity if I don't convert.

Just like every anime protagonist who's way too young to be a leader goes through their dumb tyrant phase, I think every atheist teenager who's way to young to know anything has to go through an obnoxious loud atheist phase that gives an unfair perception of all atheists among certain groups as philosophically pretentious know it alls. Though the groups who generalize as such probably aren't much better.

I never did. I mentioned it casually when my dad asked, which was more of an improvized haphazard version of "coming out". He threw religious books at me, and nearly all my family had a negative take on it.

Oddly enough, one of said family members became secular later on.

I'd say many kids are like that in general.

A bit too eager to change the world without actually taking the time to learn patience and see the bigger picture. Time makes fools of us all though..

Backed by reality? I'd ask when you became omniscient and gained such insight into the universe, but I've read that sort of spiel before.

Something satisfying about knowing you've put some thought into something? Yeah, you're pretty much only one step away from feeling that enlightened euphoria only those who wear the fedora can understand.
