OK, Well, Hmm, Here goes: I was surfing the WorldWideWeb and found out all about the best way to play the game. According to various sites due to the way that bioware has set up their challenge scaling ideal gameplay is to go: Lothering(obviously), Magetower, Redcliffe, Forest, Urn of Ashes then orzamar/denerim and so on...Well I also looked at a challenge scaling map and it shows magetower ideal for 6+, redcliffe ideal for 6+, forest 7+ etc. etc. The question I must ask because im OCD is as follows: If mage tower and redcliffe are both 6+ why is it so important to everyone on the interweb to do mage tower first for the best gameplay experience? I know I know, just stop overthinking it and play the game! right.....I can't. I'm sick...I must know, please help.

Because you can pick up one of your companions at the tower - a mage healer. And because you can get 21 bonus attribute  points while there. ;)

Edit: oh, and many people don't do them in that order for various reasons - me included.

And because people think Redcliffe is hard, and Mage Tower is easy.

What you want. After Lothering, I go:

Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep, Mage Tower, Orzammar (but only until I get Oghren, I don't finish the Deep Roads here), the Forest, Denerim for side quests, the Urn, back to Orzammar to finish it, Redcliffe, Landsmeet.

Edit: this gives me the companions asap, allowing me to level them as I want, and some good gear etc asap, plus the points. All the little side quests, companion quests and so on, I do as and when they arise. But that's just me. there is no 'ideal' way. You can really do it how you want.

I agree on the (arguably the best "loot" in the gamwe) massive amount of bonus Attribute points.

Also, doing the Mage Tower first also opens up the option of using Circle Mages to grant access to the Fade to kill the demon possessing Connor if you want to take the best Good solution.

I generally get the Ashes before I even go to Redcliffe so I can finish it in one fell swoop.

Orzammar gives the most loot, so and it's levelled. So leaving for the end is not a bad idea. On the other hand, some claim doing it early nets you more XP. That being said, I don't see anyone doing the Brood mother fight at level 11.

I decided to vary things this playthrough. (Plenty of spoilers here):

- Leave Lothering without finishing, go to Denerim to get Archivist's Sash and kill Weylon and Ser whathisname

- Shale DLC

- Lothering to go read some codexes for 75XP each and kill some bandits

- Exterior portions of Warden's Keep DLC

- Orzammar (two battles outside were *much* more difficult at about level 8) as far as finding Lord Dace in the Aeducan Thaig and pickpocketing him.

- Back to Lothering to finish up

- Haven and the Ruined Temple, far enough to get three drake scales and the Black Pearl (since its only use in the game is to be traded to the Mad Hermit, and on previous playthroughs I've never gotten it before killing him)

- Back to Denerim to get a set of armor from Wade

- Next will be the Broken Circle followed by Kolgrim and the High Dragon

In the end, there is no "one way" to do things in this game. It's possible to solo the game on Nightmare and have an interesting experience. It's possible to have an all-female party, or whatever floats your boat.

My "standard" playthough list:

Finish Lothering

Circle Tower

Shale DLC

Denerim only to start the Urn quest

Urn quest (to get the scales that Wade makes into kickbutt armor)

Kill Flemmeth(with my spiffy new armor it's so EASY I can solo her)

Then do Redcliffe/Orzammar/Brecilian at my leisure.

Redcliffe if I want to impress Allister (or get a cool bow)

Brecilian (If I want to get a few easy levels thanks to the Elfroot level exploit)

Orzammar (If I want to start Shale's quest, get Oghren, Visit dear brother Bhelen, etc)
