Could the party banter serve multiple purposes? I saw in one review that communication between various members of the party has been a bit of a problem. Might it be good to have rallying calls and the ability to request favors via party banter as well as over the mic. Things like "archers spotted"  "bleeding out"  "barrier low" "We have a Blood Mage". It might help to simplify some things. Maybe even consider a way to communicate these things without mics.

Edit: This whole comment may be premature, I have yet to try the MP but I want it to be great. Party banter could serve as entertainment but also provide real time strategy/tips in the heat of battle to help guide new players. Simple things like "Phantom" mentioned by a avatar when players had no mics was helpful in the Mass Effect MP.

There are a few basic things you can say with the DPad. I just wonder if they'll be enough to communicate CC. Otherwise, I think the signs will be pretty sufficient. And although I'm OK with using a mic, having textchat would be great. It would add versatility for cases when mics would be inconvinient. The consoles are compatible with keyboards. It's beyond me why they have textchat for PC, but not for consoles. FFXIV has for both.

Watch the videos I posted in Stysiaq's pug thread. Basically, the characters have a few lines like "I wish I could go back to my old life after this." and right now they will repeat them several times during a match. I can see that becoming annoying really fast.

Yeah that line "I wish I could go back to my old life after this." doesn't seem contextually appropriate. Almost sound like we are hearing the character thinking. I like most of the other banter though. It needs to be better contextual banter.

Oh okay, it's like the auto voices in ME3 when you get injured or downed etc except they are user prompted.

I don't think these are user prompted. Some special commands are, but these generic ones seem to be triggered automatically, usually when the characters are not fighting.

I think when they lose a bunch of health in a fight, that triggers one banter (I wonder what I could have done better.). When they don't, they have another banter.

The character will banter with each other when not in combat.

You get 4 call out options as the player:

(I don't remember exactly how they were phrased)

Attack My Target (for highlighting key enemies)

Come to Me (for buffs like barrier)

Good Job (self explanatory)

Look At This (for highlighting treasure rooms and shortcuts)

Used properly they could all but replace a mic, but it will still probable be a good idea to have one.

This sounds great. I'm sure we have all had decent games ruined by jerks on a mic.

No , this is better without mic. In pugs mic sometimes can mean hearing some teen jerk behaving in the way you will prefer to have your sound off and have only IG character banter commands. Dota is good example and reason because many mature gamers do not play it is this one exactly.

Instead of asking to remove the mic, ask for a mute option. Better in every way...

Also, it's usually easy to spot the jerks or annoying ones in the lobby, just kick them out before they cause problems.

There seems to be a mute option, although I don't know whether it mutes all players or specific ones.
