I had that card too, it changed after I did his personal quest. I guess it is to show that red lyrium has poisoned things he loved (like his brother).

 

Oh and his personal quest broke my heart

This honestly makes me glad. I was really hoping there'd be some type of Bianca - the real Bianca - thing in this game if he wasn't going to be romancable.

 

Because to be unromancable again AND have no sort of Bianca appearance was gonna really grind my gears.

Except they can't be together, and she's married, so he's basically pining over someone he can't be with for a decade. I wanted him happy - either with Bianca or over her, not still in limbo.

Yep. I expected to find what kept them apart and for them to reunite or that he would get over it, but instead we learned they knew where each other were this whole time and Varric just kept pining for someone for 15 years and neither thinks the situation will ever change. And she doesn't even seem concerned about it. For me it seemed like she's over it, just living her life.
