My warden is a human female mage, my Hawke is a female mage so my Inquisitor would be a human female mage too. Plus, I want my Inquisitor to be pro-chantry. So rolling a human would be logical.
What race are you going to be and why?

Elf for a start, I'm stuck on whether to go male or female first though. I so want to flirt with Dorian, but Cullen I do too. And the giggles for a thin character.

Dalish Elf. I've always liked the idea of a youth rising out of a race that is looked down upon and experiencing a diaspora. My Dalish elf that I play as holds resentment towards the human world, yet he truly is naive and at his core he is a gentle spirit who strives towards ideals of peace, honor and justice.

Qunari and Dalish Elf are my preferences. I haven't yet decided between them. The reasons have already been listed. A Dalish would also bring the perspective of Elven mythology and culture to the group. Solas and Sera aren't Dalish so they still have a different perspective. I'm curious what the Dalish would think of Halamshiral in its current state and how they would interpret the events going on. I'm undecided on male or female since I'm not sure which character I want to romance. I prefer to play female, but Dorian's romance sounds REALLY tempting.
Playing as a Qunari female would provide a fresh perspective, and I'm curious how she and Iron Bull would contrast each other.

Human, because I like humans. But I will be the other three eventually. Qunari is too good to not try at least once.

Human male, I play as "myself." I don't like being minimized by characters in the world because of "race" so I choose human. For me, it's the best fit in terms of story for the original playthrough. In future playthroughs, I can see myself as an Elf or Qunari. I can't ever see myself as a Dwarf probably because of the height issue.

I intend to have two playthroughs, one as a Tank as another as a defensive mage. I figure these are kinda essential elements of a Party. And since the Inquy must always be in the party, he may as well be one of the essentials, allowing me to keep changing the two DPS as I see fit. Having the Inquy as a DPS would just hurt the versatility, in my eyes, at least.
For my defensive mage, in the second playthrough, I'm almost sure I'mma pick an Elf, prolly female. The extra defense against ranged attacks seems like a good compensation to what seems to be a weakness of mages. And an elf female mage seems kinda classic in a good way.
However, for my Tankuisitor, of the first playthrough, the choice is much harder. Certainly not an Elf. Prolly a male Dwarf. Male Qun isn't out of the picture. And if the Human extra ability apply also the cap, not just to the start of the game, Humans are not out of the picture, either.
Voice actors/actresses could tip the scale here or there, if I find myself on the fence.

Was going to choose Female Elf Rogue but not keen on the dalish background for my first play through, so going to do Human instead.

Most likely a Qunari. How the voices match up with how big they are will determine if its a male or female. Either way Josie better watch out.
