I'm still debating on if I should go two handed or sword and shield on nightmare difficulty. I went sword and shield for origins and two handed for DAII. What do you guys think?

On Nightmare with a new combat system I'd go with Sword and board having two tanks in the begining of the game gives you time to learn how to deal with nightmare combat when you don't need two tanks you can either repsec to 2 handed or you have cassadra respec or trade out cassandra for someone else.

That was originally my thinking but considering I'm the up close non-stop offense type of player, swordand board seems out of my character ... I keep going back and forth

The gameplay footage for a two handed looks pretty epic, I haven't seen much in depth sword and board gameplay just the basics

When I play nightmare, it will most likely be S & S

I have thought so as well, but I am determined to try and find out if I can't somehow make a SnS warrior a damage focused warrior like it was possible in DAO. The abilities are there in the skill trees, I think it depends on how the base damage difference is on high end two-handed versus Sword and Shield gear is.

Hopefully respec amulets will be incredibly cheap, so it's possible to experiment.

Well two-handed warriors have been rather lackluster in previous DA games. I'm not sure how they'll turn out in DAI, but you can never go wrong with sword and board. Defense is always the greatest offense, especially when you do not have dedicated healers to mend the damage going out to the party. You could play nightmare with a two-handed warrior, but it's almost guaranteed it will be easier with a sword and shield. The great thing about DAI though is you can respec whenever you like.

Both are interesting ideas. I'm now intrigued with the damage focused sword and board build. That's something I think I'm gonna explore

I did have a damage focused SnS character in origins while specing Alistair as an unbeatable tank

Use both, one of each.
