That said, there were no shortage of people whose primary complaint seemed to be that they couldn't fly off into the sunset with their LI.
I know that the biggest problems with the ending didn't have to do with Shepard dying. Believe me I've ranted and raved for a year on that one. I could literally spend an hour explaining in detail, everything that was wrong with that ending. However, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I spent each entry doing 100% completion playthroughs and making all the best decisions, just so I could get that Golden Perfect ending where I do fly off into the sunset. I, like many other people, was very attached to my Shepard and the Normandy crew.
The fact that you die in all the endings, was a huge punch to the gut and honestly felt hamfisted for the sake of drama. And no I don't count the breath scene as a "Shepard lives!" ending. It was ambiguous and nonsensical that he would be able to survive being engulfed in two explosions, one of which being extremely large.
i hve no problems with the main character dying ar the end. What I wouldn't like is the writers pulling the plot carpet under my feet and throwing a completely new and unanounced plot in the last ten minutes of the game. That's what I call pulling a ME3.
DA:O pulled the ending off wonderfully. In true RPG fashion, you could CHOOSE to have the heroic sacrifice or not.
You found the Ultimate Sacrifice ending contrived and silly?
The Ultimate Sacrifice looks pretty cool and it has a great epilogue, but I guess its real issue is just how easy a way out there is, with seemingly little in the way of dire consequences, at least thus far.
This is only a minor niggle for me though, because I found DA:O's conclusion to be so immensely satisfying all around.

So did Mass Effect, what is your point?

Ok a 1 second breath scene is incomparable to an entire 5-10 minute epilogue filled with cutscenes and dialogue choices. I also mentioned I don't consider that a "Shepard lives!" ending either.
I think the Inquisitor is different than Shepard. Shepard I played when mass effect 1 came out in 2007, when I finished Mass Effect 3 in 2012 I had 5 years of replaying and journey with Shepard and his crew. With the Inquisitor it'll be a couple of weeks.

Honestly, the resolution to Shepard's story just doesn't feel heroic at all, mainly because his/her final moments is subjected to an exposition dump. I guess it doesn't help that we spend a good 15 minutes watching Shepard painfully limp along to the end. The Warden, on the other hand, either goes down fighting or smites his/her way to victory to the bitter end and gets the glory either way.
The main issue with mass effects ending was all of them completely annihilated the setting and nullified all things Shephard did to help the galaxy and it's peoples. I loved the mass effect universe, but it does not survive the games end to have further stories in the setting. So they build up this entire setting and universe you love then destroy it completely on you.

You guys don't think they're gonna pull a ME3 and waste our character in the ending do you? Seriously, I'm not going through that again.
I personally don't care that much; I am only buying DAI for the MP, but I do understand why some people have strong feeling about the SP.

Not sure why this is "the elephant in the room." For one thing, this ain't ME3, for another, there's nothing wrong with killing the main character in the ending. Worked quite well in DAO.

I'm expecting you fade kid....I dare you to show your face.

Watch him show up with Liara...
Gaider doesn't seem interested in the 2deep4u stuff. His ending will likely be more straight forward, but the inquisitor dying is certainly a possibility.

While the revelation of the purpose of the darkspawn taint makes things very interesting and dire, the fact that the game allows for two kinds of escape routes does take some of the bite away.

In a fail playthrough probably
We have to play as Cass after the credits. Dun dun dunnnnnnnnnn
I'm fine with that.
In a fail playthrough probably
More than likely. I'll be very curious to see just how bleak this fail playthrough looks. I hope it's pretty bad.

Well that and it all came down to a deus ex machina, so in reality everything you did was completely pointless. It also completely contradicted with ME1 and ME2. The ending of ME3 would have been fine in a Final Fantasy game, but not in a ME game.
Part of the appeal of the ME universe was that the science fiction wasn't that far fetched, at least in ME1. Given that an element like EEZO really did exist and worked the way it worked in the games, nothing we saw would have been that far fetched. But the ending of ME3 made heavy use of magic and was utterly impossible, especially considering the scale (entire galaxy) and time (couple of seconds) involved as well as what that magical light was doing which again was completely impossible even within the confines of the ME universe.
Only if it is a pink elephant.
Heffalumps and woozles?
And I feel like this is semi relative to the topic at hand.
On a serious note since this isn't the last installment, like how ME3 was for Shepard, I don't think we will be seeing that big old elephant this time around.
