Hmmm...Rift mage seems a lot like force mage with a bit of other things thrown in randomly (fire attack for no reason, and stonefist seems a bit out of place as well).  I am loving both of the other specializations a great deal more at this point.

Yeah, same here. Those abilities don't look nearly as interesting as the term "Rift Mage" suggests. I was on the fence between Knight Enchanter and Rift Mage, but the Knight Enchanter looks more interesting now. Good, it also fits my first Inquisitor better.

After being let down by necromancy, hopefully rift mage is good.  Otherwise, I will play a reaver or templar my first playthrough.

So the power to "take enemies out of the fight"  like a Fade portal that removes enemies from a location is a general Inquisitor power? More Rift Mage powers inline with that - like Nightcrawler & Portal would be of greater interest then a fist and a rock, but I'm likely devaluing the beauty of that in action.

The passives look very benifical. Could be fun, Solas will be a nice change in powerset from my Inquisitor's.

Well I have to say it: So far Knight Enchanter seems like the only somewhat original mage spec.

Cutting out abilities that we had access to at the early levels in origins and using them as super special spec only spells?... (stone fist, fear)

Come on bioware guys (and gals), I know that you can be more original than this...

Oh well.

That fist slamming enemies into paste seems pretty sweet. Looks like I finally found my mage spec. Now I only need to see the Tempest spec.

honestly torn right now necro or rift, KE holds no sway for me but this? hot damn, still reclaiming health and mana on a kill, plus turning the dead and the whole ten seconds of unlimited havok if killed is soo hard to pass up and of course crushing prison!

why can i not have both damn it!

I might just roll with a full party of mages just to test out all of these abilities.

Well, Necromage it is. Rift Mage looks useful, just feels a bit dull overall.

I think I can come up with 2 basic builds for Rift Mages: DPS mages and CC mages.

For DPS mages, I will go get full Inferno tree and Rift Mage tree, using Rift Mage skills to stop enemies' position then following with Fire Mine/ Wall of Fire. This combo easily reach 4000-5000% damage on 30 seconds cd.

CC mages are self-explanatory, getting Flashfire, Winter's Grasp and Lightning Bolt, combined them with Rift Mage tree and your enemies can't stand up again.

Just finished watching the Game Informer Test Chamber #2 where they give some gameplay of a lvl 13 Rift Mage. Several times during combat (in particular around the 10:25 mark, and again during dragon fight) the mage seems to activate 4 fade spirits. Does anyone know what ability or passive this is and what it does?

Just watched more of the video. The ability seems to be from Blackwall (11:35), possibly from his specialization.

So far it's looking like KE or Reaver for my first play through.  KE has that awesome blade arm thing.

Uh, please enlighten me, are we limited to only one spec? Because rift mage + knight enchanter would be mighty fun to play.

Yup, limited to one spec, but you could always KE and have solas in your party so you get to use both sets of abilities.

That ability you're talking about is a champion skill :)

Were there any rift mage spells shown in that video?

Argh, that sucks. Being limited to a couple attack spells is not fun...

I have to say, I was kinda hoping for some kind of time/space manipulation with Rift Mage.
