I've scoured the internet and am starting to feel like the only person who thinks Corypheus and the Architect look very similar. Not only do they look similar but they both influence those with the taint (e.g. darkspawn, ghouls like Lanius, etc.)  Corypheus has always been locked away so that would explain why he still believes he's a magister and that centuries haven't passed, whereas the Architect may have been free for a long enough time for him to discover how darkspawn can be 'freed' from the Old Gods' (Archdemons') influence.

So what do you guys think? Is the Architect also one of the magisters that went to the Golden City? Did the magisters corrupt it as the Chantry claims or was it already so as Corypheus claimed?

As far as I am concerned - Corypheus is dead.

However, Bioware and my wife seem to disagree - good for them I say.

The Architect seems to not know what he is, whereas Cory does. That might be because of memory loss on Archie's part, though, or a lie of convenience: for all we know Archie could have told the first five Wardens he tried to recruit who he really was and had them become less willing to help him. He also has different powers than Cory does, (Cory has mind control through the Taint where Archie is able to control it to some degree using Alchemy) but that can be explained away too, since who even knows how the mutations they went through would work?

speculation......

they were once somniari connected to the mind of the Old gods corypheus with Dumat and the architect with someone else, the Maker used this connection to spread the taint from the two magisters, to the old gods, the old gods protect themself with their sleep to protect their mind and close the connection with the magisters, then the maker imprisoned them very easly.

That's an interesting theory, in the end I believe they are both magisters. Hopefully we get to learn more of them in Inquisition.

I've been thinking about this as well. I had somehow not played Legacy yet (though I've had it for years) so I finally ran through yesterday so I know what I'm putting down in the Keep.

I'm not saying that he certainly is a magister, but BioWare wouldn't have placed some resemblance there sans raison.

Yeah it' not set in stone that he's a magister but we both agree that the similarity isn't just coincidence and there's something there.  ;)

I think they both are with the Architect having learned to play stupid better.  It was sure good at leaving out certain bits of info which surely saved its life from my daggers.

I think they are both Magisters that were tricked by Dumat to traveling into the fade. I doubt they actually went to the "Golden City". From what Corypheus says, granted in a dazed and confused state, that the city was already corrupted when they got there. It is because of his confused state of mind that I believe what he's saying about the city. He's not really talking to Hawke at that moment. He's talking to himself as he tries to remember what has happened to him. I think there is a lot about the original Magisters and the blights that has yet to be defined. But it's not possible to look at the Architect and Corypheus and NOT see them both as Magisters.

Side note.... there is just something about a guy with rocks for bones that makes me think "Yeah... that needs to die."
