If not I probably won't be picking Inquisition up.

Your party is whatever you want it to be. I, also, pick people based on who I like and adjust m play style accordingly. Always works out. ![]()
I like the limited potions in this game, it's going to make combat more strategic and entertaining.

I think it will be possible, you'll just have to utilize different tactics to succeed.
Potions are limited to 8 for the party (12 with an upgrade), but they also refill automatically at camps, which you can fast travel to as long as you aren't in combat. And Barrier from mages will help mitigate damage (it's a basic spell available from level 1). Also probably depends on difficulty level.
But my point is that potions aren't really as limited as you might think. You just have to be a bit more judicious.
Also, mages can no longer truly heal in the same way as before; they get a late-game super ability if they take the Knight Enchanter specialization that's like Group Heal on steroids, but that's it besides protection and a revival spell. So no more heal spamming a la DA:O.

If you happen to hate all the essential party members (tank/support), It'll PROBABLY be a pain on higher difficulties.
Thats just a guess though. Maybe you can get enough CC on every character to not need those.
But you probably can't CC Dragons/BigBosses so theres another issue.

I assume it'll still be possible to have groups without a healing mage or a warrior tanking? I base my groups off the characters' personalities not their roles.
If not I probably won't be picking Inquisition up.
I think it will be easier to roll without a mage than DA2 or DAO, because you no longer need spells to resurrect fallen party members.
Even a Qunari can do it

Well they've said you can play teams that are technically sub optimal (that is chosen for purposes other than roxxoring combat) at up to normal difficultly without issue. So as long as you are willing to lower the difficulty as need be then you are fine. There is certainly no right to play at a higher level without putting in strategic and tactical effort.

Having looked over the skill trees, there does seem to be a good amount of skills avaiable to all classes that can be used to mitigate damage - as well as barrier and "tanking" type abilities, there's also crowd control and some debuffs (weakness etc.). So, I think there's a good chance you can build a party using these "less traditional" ways of dealing with the enemies damage instead of sticking to the "holy trinity" (or at least, DA:I's interpretation of it), at least on the lower difficulty levels.

I always pick the ones I like the most and it usually works out. I've played origins on nightmare with that attitude and it worked then. If you only play with mages though, it might be a lot more difficult.
