Um don't take this the wrong way but if you spent 300 hours playing Skyrim yet you don't remember any of the characters maybe you have memory issues.
But seriously, pitting two series against each other like this is pointless. If you enjoy Dragon Age more, that's cool, you play Dragon Age. For people who enjoy Skyrim more, they can do the same. It's not like we can only play one video game, so... just play what you like.
If you prefer Dragon Age you're not wrong, just as someone who prefers Skyrim isn't wrong.

Skyrim is all about the open world and the Lore. Plain and simple. The fact you sunk 300+ hours into means their mission was accomplished.
BW games focus more on story and characters. The fact you remember certain moments from their games mean their mission was accomplished.

To me it's just story verses environment. What are you in the mood for?
Between MW, OB and Skyrim I've logged in over 3,000+ hours, over half of that in Skyrim. But I've also played and beaten DA:O over 20 times.
As far as replay value I give that to Skyrim. The game easily lets you just screw the MQ and be or do whatever you want. DA:O, while I love it, does make you play on some rails and while there are variances you can do, it ends the same way ... and it does end, you can not just keep playing after the credits roll, but, I also love the story and NPC interaction.

Even trying to compare the Witcher series to the Dragon Age series has issues as they are different kinds of RPGs.

Why is Dynasty Warriors not like GTA?
Skyrim, the Witcher, Dragon Age hell even Legend of Zelda only have thare fantasy setting in common. .. that and being games.

There shouldn't a comparison. Why can't people just enjoy both and put an end to posting these
useless VS. threads.

I play Dragon Age for the Story and the characters. Skyrim for the lore and Open world doing whatever I want

Why not both? I enjoy pretty much every RPG game I can get my hands on, be it Skyrim, DragonAge, Divinity or Suikoden. I enjoyed Skyrim's crafting system, large unique cities, wast landscapes, countless mods but I also have a special place in my heart for Dragon Age because of its caracters, lore and story.
Diversity is necessary for improvement and only benefits gamers. I'm intrigued to see how well the elements of Skyrim will blend in the Inquisition. And who knows maybe Bioware will inspire Bethesda to focus more on the writing?

Inquisition is the new Skyrim.
But, yeah. We live in a perfect world where we can have both.

Pretty much this.
I love both and appreciate both styles. I have spent well over 1500 hours in Skyrim (and some of that wasn't counted right so it's more) and I don't even want to guess how many hours in DA:O
I hate these threads. Both games are great for very different reasons. And for some people one will appeal more than the other. That doesn't make the other game terrible.

What will be interesting is not Dragon Age vs Skyrim but how story telling and semi open world will be to both demographic players. Will the open world players like the narrowing story narrative that is not avoidable and the more narrative heavy players like the semi open world exploring equially not avoidable.

why do we have to compare the two? because they are both RPG's? because the dev's have said they were "Influenced" by skyrim?
They are two seperate games with two incredibly different play styles and therefore can't be compared on that front. maybe you can compare story but since Skyrim pretty much had no story i don't exactly know what you'll compare.
I really don't get the point of comparing games like Witcher, DA, Skyrim, Dark Souls, Etc. Together when they are such different games and not in any of the same series.

Worst story and characters too, even Super Mario had better story.

What's funny is Bioware says that yet I see more Dark Souls and TW2 influences then Skyrim.

Well since I kinda disliked both of those games but liked Skyrim I am hoping that Bioware are correct in their claim. But I also loved Origins so I hope this game has the complexity of that game too and not just the eye candy of Skyrim.

I'm still amazed how many people fell for the flashy graphics of Skyrim. If it wasn't for the modding community, it would be a worthless POS. Still glad I skipped that game, while I did play and enjoy the previous TES games.
