Bioware should spend a few minutes and see the mods being made and find a way to get something similar into da3 as future dlc.
Due to NWN1, Bioware is likely very aware of modding and mod authors; hired a few of them if I recall correctly. But the Frostbite engine was available and already paid for, I believe; little reason to go out and purchase a new one simply because it was mod friendly.
The one area which an Open World RPG may be greater than a Story based title is in replay ability. One a story, dialogue, and various options are almost fully explored, there is little else that is fresh to see. In an Open World, it seems that there is far more content, even if it may not always be tied to quests, tales, etc.
I am a fan of both.

Has anyone asked if future dlc is added that it can be added into existing world. Prior da dlc was a separate environment with only characters/items crossing over onto main game. Skyrim addded caves and enemies into existing world and mods added even more including towns, weather, people etc.
In the case of DA, that was because all the areas in the game were separate.

I love these two franchises to death. If a new Elder Scrolls came out on the same day as DA: I, I'm pretty sure I would explode. But they're different games. Skyrim really gets the whole "living, breathing world" down to a science, and it's excellent. But Bioware always gets the epic story right. That being said, after the six hour trial I had with Dragon Age Inquisition, I'm feeling like they are stepping it up a notch with the open world. My gut tells me this game is going to be a beautiful hybrid in many ways.

Dragon age is starting out like the Elder scrolls, the prisoner...just saying.

I like both for different reasons. DA is better with usable abilities and story/characters (though as an asocial individual I don't really care about most of them anyways) but in Skyrim virtually nothing can contradict what I "write" (in my head) for my characters and I can totes go "pff, no" at the story and just go off exploring for a couple hundred hours

Honestly, I hate how DA is compared to Skyrim (TES). They are so very different.
Also, Skyrim was completely overrated. I put several hours into that game and I still can't even tell you what it was about. Even the characters weren't memorable in the slightest.

As I have 2800+ hrs invested, I found a few of them interesting, esp Paarth, Neloth, and Florentius; not overrated for me.

Get Interesting NPCs mod and you'll get hundreds of amazing characters with very fun dialogues

Meaning Paarthurnax? The other two are DLC, so I've never met them and likely never will.

Skyrim is completely overrated, I really have no idea why people like it. I personally think it is badly designed drivel with a terrible narrative and an empty world with absolutely nothing interesting to find other than fresh cabbages and tomatos in ancient crypts. ![]()
And I hate Bethesda's open world map compression BS, because it disconnects me from the world. It is hard to feel immersed when taking a little stroll equates to walking hundreds or thousands of miles.
Skyrim is all about the open world and the Lore. Plain and simple.
Wat.

I'm still amazed how many people fell for the flashy graphics of Skyrim. If it wasn't for the modding community, it would be a worthless POS. Still glad I skipped that game, while I did play and enjoy the previous TES games.
Ditto on these two comments, stop the skyrim comparison, Skyrim is just a Zelda game made Elder Scrolls, not even an elder scroll game

Yup, agree. Especially about the bland empty world. How can one game go so low, when its predecessor "Oblivion" was great...
oh, DA->D2, but this is for another topic

Wasn't it the Dragon Age franchise that enjoys finding fresh cheese in ancient crypts?

I mentioned these two for their humor, and many Players have the edition that comes with the DLC. In the Vanilla game, I enjoy loathing Elenwen, and often attack the Thalmor Embassy when in the area after being threatened. Also enjoy being mentored by Arngeir and Esbern (ie; Christopher Plummer and Max Von Sydow). And one of the main reasons I support the Empire each time is Legate Rikke. While the characters as a whole may not have the depth of Bioware NPC's, there are sooo many of them, and several like these examples are pleasing.

Well, another way to look at this is that the outdoor map is a kind of shorthand the way the cities are. Just think of it as Ultima all over again.

You mean the map is even more ridiculously crowded with stuff than it is in vanilla?

Crowded? There are mods to add more NPC encounters, but have not crossed any that remove them. I am able to ride for lengths at a time where the only encounters are peaceful. In other places, there are numerous critters, so perhaps this is based more on locale.
And one of the selling points of DAI is the environment control such thinning may have. Looking forward to this, and watching Inquisition troops watching the roads.
