In the remaining days until Dragon Age Inquisition launches, this is a good time to get your PC in a ready state. If you don't have a high-end PC that will run the game on Ultra, you may want to become more familiar with tweaking graphic settings as well.

Most of this is general information but per people's accounting on game forums, many ignore computer maintenance only to find their games not working as well as they could be.

Here is what I am doing and some of the recommended programs I use to optimize my PC for games or otherwise. My background: My first PC was had in 1987 (ouch) and I've built and repaired a few since 1992. I used to be involved in tech rather heavily but admittedly I'm less current then I used to be, so I will defer to "modern" tech expert if the need arises and make changes accordingly, if needed.

Otherwise, moving on...

Malware

You may be surprised how many people have game issues over malware. Here is what I run:

AdwCleaner -- clean out your PC's junk, quick and easy
http://download.cnet...-75851221.html (or BleepingComputer)

Malware Bytes Anti-Malware
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
I use the pro version (free version is fine) and think it is one of the most game friendly protections. Run a thorough scan with it and then just let it be. Turn off real-time protection when you run the game. I haven't noticed a problem but some might.

If you suspect malware even after a clean scan, you can  also try RogueKiller or ComboFix (use this at you're own risk -- see (bleepingcomputer.com)

General Maintenance

--Clear out the dust from CPU and GPU and overall.

--Update graphic drivers.

--Update Windows

--Defrag Harddrive (and wish you had SSD).

Optimization

Avoid game boosting software or use as a last resort. These can boost FPS for some people and yet cause stability problems for others.

It is best to learn how to turn off background problems yourself. Modern computers don't benefit as much from turning off unused services but if your CPU is struggling every bit helps. The main thing to look for is background programs you don't need. You can create a .bat file to turn them off or do so manually.

Tweaking - Graphics

Not much to say here until the game is released but aside from this article on graphic settings, generally turning off AA and MSAA (or lowering it) will provide the most performance improvement with the least drawback.

If you meet the minimum requirements you should be able to run the game on medium and if stable tweak some things on high. Best to do this one at a time.

If you meet the recommended requirements I would start on high and work your way to Ultra, balancing graphics with performance. Generally you need to exceed recommended settings to play a game on all Ultra settings.

This article uses the game Skyrim as an example but it is appropriate in its basics on Graphic Settings.

I hope this helps someone and please add your recommendations as well. I imagine some DA-I specific recommendations will come out soon.

Bump because this is silly day (today-tomorrow) and people will complain about the game not working properly when the problem is on their end (aside from needed patches).

Happy gaming!

P.S. If you have something game-specific to add, please do. I'm not able to launch the game until late today.

Also you might want to include Roguekiller, there is a couple of nasty malware that stick themselves into the registry and other malware software can't detect.
