HA that woke up my wife O.o
I've hated the Chantry since the 1st game, so I'm going to try to find a way to destroy them. I 'll make it my characters goal in life...
The Inquisition reformed in the game is a separate organization, as I understand it they only push the "herald" thing because it helps getting support from andrastians or something.
Cass has very strong feelings towards how she would like the chantry to be and i'm hoping they can be a reality. I denied being the herald and Cass brought it up in conversation and asked if I wasn't a believer and I answered that I was. She approved, shes a strong follower of the chantry, but won't just follow blindly.
I'm out of likes for the day...I sure can't wait to roll my mage who supports the Chantry, Andraste, and the Circle. It's gonna be fun embodying everything the BSN resents about the Dragon Age universe.
I say up with a secular state that is founded on the principle of liberty, and down with the theocratic despotism of the chantry (I am sure we will not get this, the writers seem to be going for an entirely different trope). I cannot see how anyone can say that the chantry is a vehicle of progression, when within its very title is the word “Imperial”. Religion and imperialism-imperialism is bad enough without theocracy-comingled is a scary concoction, we have seen this in our own real history (e.g. caliphates, christendom).
As Thomas Jefferson said, “The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.” I cannot see Cassandra's ideal “reformed chantry” allowing for a pluralist society, or allowing governments that are free of the chantry’s doctrine. The uber faithful are always the ones to overreact out of fear that their religion is wrong. I cannot see, someone like Cassandra putting up with someone who says that her beliefs are wrong-thus making free expresion moot. I would predict many broken legs, in fact I would perdict ignominious death and abject suffering at the point of a sword, and other tortuous means etc.
Even if the chantry was to be separate from the Inquisitor’s state, and the chantry reformed, and pluralism allowed, we would probably get a similar situation that we have in the real world, which was summed up well by the late great Christopher Hitchens:
“Many religions now come before us with ingratiating smirks and outspread hands, like an unctuous merchant in a bazaar. They offer consolation and solidarity and uplift, competing as they do in a marketplace. But we have a right to remember how barbarically they behaved when they were strong and were making an offer that people could not refuse.”
Nice to see religious intolerance is still alive and well on BSN.
Funny, considering how the intolerance of the Chantry against elves, mages, and other religions are the main reasons why some people dislike the organization.
All factions are intolerant towards (an)other faction(s) in Thedas

And the dalish and qunari give the welcome wagon to everyone right?

Since you didn't address my point that some people don't dislike the Chantry simply because it's a religion, I'm not sure why you replied to me.

All I can say is good.
I still love you tho.

I fail to see how this invalidates what I said in anyway.
And let's not pretend those groups aren't just as intolerant as the Chantry.
With the chantry in it Therdas isn't worth saving.
Do you have the same stance on Christianity? if so, you must have issues living In this world...

Some people disliking the Chantry because of particular actions they have taken over the centuries - from the Dales to the Chantry controlled Circles - invalidates the claim that those people dislike it simply because it's a religion. And I'm not going to pretend that one should compare an organization with races of people.
You're still on about this? Yeah, the Chantry sucks, but, when the world is falling apart, taking that opportunity to say "f**** you" to the Chantry is just petty
You just disproportionally hate the Chantry for some reason. Did the Chantry kill your parents or something?

Hey, if it doesn't take any time...
I'll use the Chantry if need be, but have no intentions of doing it any favors that I don't have to.

Vilegrim did express an interest in playing as a Dalish protagonist, and the Dalish have had very toxic relations with the Chantry of Andraste since the fall of the Dales. I don't see anything wrong with a main character not liking a particular organization. I'm sure most pro-templar players will be disinclined to work with the rebel mages when playing as a pro-templar Inquisitor, as one example.

Wanting to destroy or a repress a religion because you disagree with it is the very definition of religious intolerance Lob but I'm sure you know this.
Why not? the Chantry is made up of people of various races after all.
