So I figured I creat this thread to discuss all things around templar. From skills and possible builds to lore and how the new Templar links with the DA tradition.

If you feel this thread is redundant please ignore, otherwise maybe it would be nice to have one for each specialization.

Cheers

I do like the fact the templar is like a paladin. Combine with various skills and passives and upgrades and you suddenly have a very potent buff and debuff machine.

I have no regrets in taking Cassandra with me, none at all.

Mind you I am taking Iron Bull (husband), Black wall and Cassandra as my team mates. Lmfao ... Warriors ftw ;3

But I am a frost specced necromancer. So oodles of fun :D

I think I have asked this before but if the passives stack, having 2 templars in the party can lead to some crazy permanent buffs :o

I'm curious how Champion has changed since the Templar spec has changed so radically.

I'm wondering if some of the skills that say they do extra damage to demons really only do work on demons.

Champion is literally the base Warrior Vanguard tree with slightly better bonuses. It has nothing in common with the DAO version.

you can stack vanguard and champion though I thought.

That is a terrifying thought lol

They've all changed a lot... I'm moslty curious at how Templars are demon-centric... shouldn't it be Demons and Mages?

I just realized that some of the Templar spec skills are named after quests in the game.

I have a question if anyone has heard anything.

In Origins, Alistair said templars don't need lyrium to use their skills.  Over time, that has changed.  Now it does.

My question is: "Does anyone know how that might be implemented in Inquisition, or if it won't be required for PC templars to take Lyrium for their talents?"

So that's why they sounded so damn familiar!
hah.

I wonder if wrath of heaven will do damage against non mage foes? I don't expect much damage, but do expect the skill to do alot of damage to demons and enemy spellcasters.

Also, i notice that the Spell Purge ability is a eldritch detonator! That is excellent :)

I've always wanted to play a templar with meaning (i found it sort of lacking in precious games role play wise) and i believe Inquisition will provide that role play experience. I've been getting more and more interested in the lore of the order, and with inspirations such as Thrask, Cullen and Evangeline, my templar will try to stick to the original virtues of the order, protecting mages and non mages alike, and bringing the pain to demonkind ;)

I liked the Templar skills in DA 2, (especially in combo with 2H-skills, which I know isn't canon) I don't know how this will compare.

Combined with Reaver, that build was probably the most powerful to me.

And "Smiting" enemies in general is just most excellent.

I won't play a Templar my first game (most-likely), but I will be pro-templar and have at least Cassandra in my party.

Has anyone seen what spell purge looks like?
We've seen the golden beam of light that is Wrath of heaven , and blessed blades had Cassandra shout a cry and lift her blade in the air, so what of spell purge?

True. Some skills need clarification. Blessed Blades for example: attack buff especially against demons. is it 15% for demons or 15% for everyone plus something more for demons?

Wrath of Heaven sounds like some high level cleric spell straight from DnD or Warcraft lol.

Oh Cass, don't ever stop being amazing. As if her permanent spot in my party was ever in doubt.

The Seekers have an alternate method of acquiring the powers, but it is super spoilery. It is quite possible we will use that way.

ooh. do you know? I don't mind spoilers.

and I'm hoping the Inquisitor can learn Templar skills without the lyrium addiction, too.

It's weird, because in a conversation I saw with Cassandre (not spoilery, it's at the beginning of the game) she says that her Seeker powers are specifically created to fight demons, which seems to fit the powers we see in the Templar tree more than the usual Templar abilities to me. Maybe they should have renamed it the Seeker tree and have Cass teach you?

I'm not sure I entirely understand it myself, but it is floating around in Cassandra's thread in the story and characters section.

hmm....yeah......I wouldn't have minded that. in fact, would have loved if they combined Templar and Spirit Warrior into one spec and then perhaps name that Seeker?

You might have to go back a ways to find it.

Question: How big is the difference in damage between Shield/Sword and Two-handed? And does the choice of weapon affect the build?
