Dragon Age - Inquisition... the timeline?

From tie in media like the novels DA-Asunder, The Masked Empire, and Last Flight, I presume DA:I will begin sometime around 9:42 DA or after, since both The Masked Empire and Asunder occur in 9:40 DA, and Last Flight occurs from 9:41 - 9:42 DA.
Just wondering if I missed a gameplay video or announcement from the developers as to when DA:I is actually set (9:43 DA? 9:50 DA--meaning the war has been fought for more than ten years??).

I think the game runs concurrently to "The Masked Empire", because I've definitely seen it mentioned that the civil war in Orlais over the imperial throne was either very recent or is still on-going.

I assume 9:41

It has to be at least 9:41 but 9:42 would make more sense.

Well, the civil war in Orlais isn't resolved but is in fact only beginning at the end of that book, so it might be fully set afterward.

I stand corrected.

I think Mike Laidlaw? once said in a twitch stream that DA: Inquisiton takes place right after Cassandra's - ahem - interview with Varric about Hawke and the events that happened during Varric's friendship with Hawke. Varric and Cassandra are on their way to the summit on the Mountain Top when the big Breach explosion (in the game) happens. So a few months after Varric and Cassandra talks to each other is the game, DA: Inquisition, set.

I don't know. If I had to guess, I'd presume DA:I begins around 9:42 DA, based on the fact The Masked Empire, Asunder, nor Last Flight make any mention of the events going on during DA:I.
It's possible it starts soon after Varric is questioned by Cassandra, placing it beginning in 9:40, but having no mention of those events from the game in The Masked Empire, Asunder, or Last Flight seems rather... odd. I mean, I can understand them not wanting to spoil events from the game in the novels, but even a non-specific reference or mention of the game's events in one of the more recent novels could've been done to help it all mesh better without spoiling anything.
It's due to that reason that I think the game will start sometime after Last Flight. I very well may be wrong, and I guess we'll find out for sure next week.

Dragon Age 2 ends after Asunder and the Masked Empire.

In Last Flight it's mentioned that there hasn't been any contact with the Grey Wardens in Orlais, and that Grey Warden fortresses in Orlais were empty, which could mean Last Flight takes place concurrently with DAI.

Actually Asunder is set after DA2. The kirkwall circle rebellion are both heavily referenced in both books and The Masked Empire and Asunder take place pretty much side by side. Think DA2 as the firework and Asunder as the man with the long sparkler who lights it

*sigh* The end of DA2 is at the time Cass is talking to Varric. That is after the events of Asunder and Masked Empire. Last Flight takes place a bit before DAI.

This is confirmed in multiple places by characters referencing that the Blight ended ten years ago. Furthermore, the specific year is explicitly given by Fiona if you side with the Mages during the "In Hushed Whispers" quest. In that quest, Alexius, one of the age inter mages, accidentally sends you a year ahead in time (time travel). When you find Fiona (who is infused with red Lyrium), and you ask her what year it is, she states that it's 9:42 DA, and that it's been a year since you disappeared due to Alexius' spell. This confirms that DA:I firmly begins in 9:41 DA.
It's possible that the events of DA:I span at least a year, pushing the end of the game into 9:42 DA at least (or it could even be more than a year).
If I had to guess, I'd wager the timeline goes:
Dragon Age II (bookend cinematics with Varric being questioned by Cassandra occur in 9:40 DA)
Dragon Age - The Last Flight (Chapters 1, 6, 9, and 15 set in 9:41 DA, the other chapters occur as flashbacks to the Exalted Age, between 5:12 - 5:24 EA)
Dragon Age - The Last Court (occurs soon before the beginning of DA:I, likely in 9:41 DA)
Dragon Age - Inquisition (begins in 9:41 DA, may last into 9:42 DA or later depending on length of time that passes in the game)
Dragon Age - Last Flight (Chapters 20, 25, set in 9:42 DA)
Dragon Age - Inquisition: "In Hushed Whispers" ** (this involves time travel to an alternate future of 9:42 DA, a year after the Inquisitor and his companions disappeared due to Alexius' spell, after which they defeat Alexius and send themselves back to 9:41 DA, resetting or "fixing" the timeline).
So it seems at least chapters 20 and 25 of DA-Last Flight occur after DA:I, or possibly during the latter portion of the game.

Just a quick question: has the timeline of DA:I been narrowed down yet? As far as I know it hasn't been announced when the game is set, nor how long it takes (1 year like DA:O or ten years like DA2).
I hope this helps.

Yup, see my post immediately before yours.
Thanks for the link, though. I've been working on my own completist timeline for DA and have everything included (even the DA2 shirt stories, short comics, full length comics, novels, and films, and obviously all the games and DLC, including the spin off games like DA-Legends, Heroes of Dragon Age, The Last Court, etc).
As for this, from your link:
9:41 Dragon -
the events of Inquisitions occur (this is proven when Dorian states that 9:42 is a year into the future, however, this also seems to contradict a statement made by Cassandra which can be accessed in certain dialogue in which she states that Lord Seeker Lambert disappeared two years prior)
It's possible DA:I begins late in 9:41, with the events of Asunder having occurred in early 9:40 DA, which would make the time span at least a year and a half or more, and Cassandra was just rounding up. Just a possible explanation or "fix" for what may be a continuity mistake.

I don't think there's anything to confirm it was before or after. It took place during the same year. Some things happen at the same time, for instance, The Masked Empire and Asunder occur at the same time.
