Wait.. Varric lied about the crossbow? In the Legacy DLC we meet the Carta Dwarf who made the crossbow for him. I forgot his name, but Varric clearly states it was a prototype and never miss-fired.
Shocking I know

Barred labeled "Swag" made me lmao.
Varric doesn't say anything about Anders so he is the only companion we know nothing about.
On my play through I kept Anders alive and Varric mentions that Anders was helping the rebel mages but some of them wanted him gone as he starts the war which some of the mages didn't want to be a part of.
He then goes on to mention that he doesn't know where he is and doesn't care to.

Remember at the start of the conversation when Varric stated he is a pathological liar?

Pretty sure he was lying about that too.

From what people say, Varric apparently avoids talking about Anders at all. Maybe they had a more developed friendship than he let show to Hawke.
I could imagine he would feel bitter given what Anders did to his home.

I think they are very close friends in DA2, in fact he is the only friend Anders has beside Hawke (which depends on the player). Maybe it hurt the most.
Yeah but Varric waves it off as being a more casual relationship between the two when you meet them in the hanged man in act 3.

Isn't that what Varric does with everything? Also remember he's telling all this to Cassandra and unlike her he *knows* how the story ends. If you knew this guy you were friends with started a war and you're being interrogated by someone about said war, wouldn't you be inclined to play down any friendship you might have with aforementioned person?
I like how the person who came to tow the Arishok's dreadnought away was blatantly

He says, it's a different option - "What can you tell me about the mage, who started the war?" Varric says that Anders hang out with the mages until they ditched him out of resentment for dragging them into an open confrontation.

I know about that, but its very unspecific in comparison to other companions. Also is romance acknowledged? Does he say the same thing about Isabela if she is romanced by Hawke for example?

Yes, his descriptions doesn't change with romances. Sadly, and that's one of people's complaints.
I'm disappointed about Sebastian. I was hoping to gain some respect for his character and instead he ends up replacing being an indecisive bore with being a total hypocrite, attacking innocents because he's mad that someone attacked innocents. Greeeeat job, dude. I was really wishing you would go face the actual problem one on one (or two, I guess) and find Hawke and/or Anders. Would have been a cool scene.

I think that is dead on. Plus he caused hawk and by extension varric to get involved inthe gallow battle at the end. Anders made everyone pick a side. I also watched the video of the conversation between the inquisitor and viveene and she brings up a really good point about what happened with the circles. But it is a spoiler and I won't say it.
Get ready for obvious spoilers
This is one of the FIRST conversations you're having with Varric...
If you JUST want to know exactly what's happening in Kirkwall click below:
That put my mind at ease. I wasn't expecting most of them to appear in this game. But I did worry what happpened to Aveline because she did love her job. My Hawke was romancing Isabela but I'm okay with whatever state their relationship would be in now.
I wish Bioware would create some small games for past companions. I'd like to see how Shale travels across Thedas stomping on pigeons.
I wonder if he says anything else if Hawke romanced a companion... I don't see any of them leaving Hawke if they're genuinely in love with him/her. You'd think he'd have another small comment about it or something.
Hopefully Sebastian burns Kirkwall to the ground and salts the earth so nothing grows ever again. It is the only way to be sure.
We don't know the full story yet. I'm glad Sebastien decided to take up the crown in Starkhaven but we don't know what occured in Kirkwall after Cullen joined the Inquisition. The slaughter of the Nevarra Circle is tragic. If authority still remained with the Templars at Kirkwall, with no Chantry and no viscount, then Sebastian may have decided to take the initiative. The worst case scenario is the Templars keep Kirkwall as a base of operations. Even Sebastian wouldn't be dumb enough to let that happen.
Omg Sebastian really does like he threatens? But it doesn't make any sense. If Hawke sided with mages and spared Anders they are far from Kirkwall, Kirkwall just had Aveline and Cullen trying to rebuild the city and restore the order. If Hawke sided with templars and spared Anders, Anders probaply killed himself (he implied this I think). If Hawke sided with templars and didn't convince Anders to switch sides Anders is dead anyways.
What is Sebastian wanting from Kirkwall since Anders shouldn't be there anymore regardless and Hawke not in many cases either. Who is he going to get revenge on? It doesn't make sense!

My thoughts exactly. ![]()
It's still Kirkwall: the City of Chains. How long could it remain stable and free of corruption? If anybody could give it an enema it's Sebastien, Prince Whitebread himself!
Starkhaven is in no better shape, Its entire circle went on fire and majority of Templars and mages died. Free marches have become the official DUMP of Thedas. You do not want to be born there. Nevarra did the best thing when it separated.
Maybe Sebastian just doesn't want to take his chances with Anders.
Dumb thing to do tho.
I think Sebastian knows damn well that Anders is gone and order is restored by Cullen (and probably Aveline if she didn't rage quit Kirkwall).
Sebastian is pretty immature imo, he couldn't care less about people who died except Elthina, he was like "muh mum Elthina". I doubt he cares what happens to people when he invades as well.
The Vael family was quite smart to kick him out.
Or maybe they should've kept him.
He'd just be wasting his time in in brothels and wouldn't have met Elthina to have a breakdown and go nuts.
