 Does the ranger spec work better with a melee or ranged rogue? For the rest of my party I'm looking at Wynne, Morrigan, and Shale.

Ranged. Melee Rogues will get more damage from speccing Assassin/Bard or Assassin/Duelist than they will from taking Ranger.
