Depends.

I have had them 'focus on Sovereign' and so the Council died.

I haven't ever done 'Let the Council die!' or such, though.

My Renegade did the focus on Sovereign thing a lot. :)

While I always let the rachni live, I usually focus on Sovereign. Unfortunately, since my general attitude in the game swung from Paragade to Renegon, focussing on Sovereign means an all huaman council. Since I like that idea even less than letting the council live, I usually save them now.

I killed the council but only because I wasn't willing to sacrifice thousands so that three politicians may live.

So did I, was surprised to get Renegade points for that.

On my second run I was bad the whole game but saved the council.

I did that at first but there are over 40 thousand civilians on the asencion

Given we make the choice not knowing the outcome (both results in success obviously), its not really the case of thousands of life, rather all life.  If the reapers succeeded in breaking through, the council and the ascension along with everyone else would most likely be dead anyways.

So obviously, I chose to not help them, although I did save the rachni queen which probably wasn't the most logical choice.

I would have to say that for me, the logical choice would be to save the ascension. If you have the fleet hold back and let the citidel fleet be destroyed then it's just the alliance vs reaper and the geth. But if the alliance goes in earlier and helps out the citidel fleet then there are more ships to fight the enemy. Surely that makes more sense?

Aside from my one paragon run - Everytime I played. Nominated Udina too.

Yeah, I'm pretty evil.

Never, ever. Even when doing by full renegade kill everything run. Save the queen, maybe no more rachni enemies. If not, well those gits at the port should suffer. As for the council, well the most powerful beings in the galaxy owing big favours. Besides, Alliance vessels would have to fight the ships that destroyed the Ascension anyway. Might as well get some PR out of it.

The Council was always holding us back. When I saw the opportunity to get rid of them, I took it.

I killed the council. Sacrifice the few to save the many. I let the queen go.

I would have gladly let the council die if it didn't force you to make a full human council as a replacement.

My first run was a paragon. Saved the Rachni, saved the council.

Second was a renegade. Killed the queen, killed the council, elected Udina.

I enjoyed it the renegade a bit more. :)

I let the Council die simply because it seemed like the right thing to do. Better to hold back and then focus all attacks on taking down Sovereign rather then risking the return of the Reapers just to save a few people.

Nope, I saved them both with my first character (femshep).

I'm a good girl, what can I say? :3

Don't know about my other characters... I've only completed the game once myself. My others might make some different decisions.

well to save the council would be a tactical error, and in my mind the rachni queen=alien queen from the movies

All play throughs but my latest was the council died, the second i killed the Queen as well.

i killed teh council inittially because from the tone of the Game at that point it seemed like odds were against me and i heard ME was supposed to be a fairly dark story i didn't think killing shep would be too far of a guess as to how the end of teh game went. It was a tactical decision i didn't want to waste the Fleet protecting one ship when they had the best chance of succeeding.

I let the rachni queen live because she seemed like she was pretty tame and not a threat fairly level headed and such.

Next play through was a Renegade and killed them and the queen(for renegade points and Wrex had a decent point)

last i saved them both and i have to say while the council is reformedish and it's probably the cannon ending (never checked) i'd definately have to say i prefer the Paragon Council death ending to Saving them. though the paragon saving them one was also pretty interesting.

I have 9 Sheps for importing so I am pretty sure at least one of the 4 renegades did. I should really go back over my decisions up there.

Yeah...first time through...second time through, I let the rachni queen and council live, but then when I played it again, I killed the council. I never liked them...and let the rachni queen live.

yes but this is a tactical error why throw fresh troops in to combat to save 1 ship instead of holding off letting it fend for as long as possibe strike the target at Full and mop up afterward. Either Way there was a threat of Failure in the Mission for the Arcturas fleet but if you hold them and hit the reaper at full power that gives time for an emergency signal to be sent to the main turian armada and them to arrive for mop up or the killing blow as i'm almost positive the full force of their navy wasn't present during the suprise attack.
