Hey guys! I'm an AmeriCorps volunteer living in Alaska with no internet at home (small stipend and really expensive Alaskan internet plans don't go well together, apparently). As an owner of both DA:O and DA2, I know that both games had an email log in feature without which you couldn't use any of your DLC content. I was wondering if DA:I has something like that as well. I really want to get this game but I'm somewhat reluctant to buy it ends up requiring constant internet connection to get access to some of it "offline" content.

And this question is purely about singleplayer. I've already accepted the fact that I won't get to play multiplayer in the near future. Thanks!

If you want to use anything besides the default world state, then "Yes" it will require a connection during the initial start-up. If you're fine with just the vanilla experience (Default World State, No DLC), then you shouldn't require an internet connection.

I Think I know the answer to this, but if I get online and load my world state when I set up, then go offline for the remainder of my play, will it be fine? Ie. Does download the world state in one go or is it a continual transfer of information? Internet is ridiculously expensive in South Africa.

BioWare has said you can download your world state off the Keep in one go and then never go online again. Of course, I have no idea what the exact restrictions on DLC are.

isn't the origin client required to be online to play this game, even in single player?

It's a one-time activation via origin. After that put it in offline mode and play offline forever

You don't need the internet to play the game. As others have said, there is a default "World State" (i.e. who's on the throne of Ferelden, which characters died in DA:O if any, etc etc). If you don't have the internet, that's the backdrop to the game.

There is, however, no save game importing. Therefore, if you want the details of your own DA:O and DA2 playthroughs to apply instead of the default World State, you will need to recreate those details manually in the Keep. And, yes, for that you will need the internet.

Online activation is required. So you'll need to get your device to an internet connection once.

Thanks for the replies! Does anyone know where I can pre-order a physical copy? Every site I looked at only seems to have a digital download.

Amazon sells physical disks.

You can also order a physical copy through the Origin website--although I don't know how well they're set up to deliver to South Africa, so maybe Amazon is your best bet.
