go with windows 7 64 bit. Much faster than vista. Its going to be supported by microsoft jsut a bit longer and the memory footprint is lower

It should run on Vista x64 just fine.    Vista is just a bit more of a resource hog than 7, so it will perform just slightly worse.   However, if your computer can handle that extra load it might not be a big issue.

I just don't think Vista is officially supported, so if you do end up with issues, support maybe hard to get.

the problem with 32-bit OS.. ANY windows 32-bit OS.. is that its limited to 4 GB RAM.. thats going to severely handicap the graphic fidelity of the game.. so i understand why it  wasnt supported.

You've got both 64-bit and 32-bit Vista on hand? How come?

Edit: Whoops! Forgot that Vista used the same key.

There's also the option of the Windows 10 preview. I'm not sure buying an OS upgrade right now makes sense, since there are some rumors of the upgrade to W10 being fairly cheap.

There's a big PC performance thread kicking around, but I never saw any Vista users post there. Vista's pretty uncommon among gamers, and 64-bit rarer still. So I guess you're the guinea pig.
