It's possible anyone who wants to be a chevalier has to do it.
Or it could just be a fraternity thing and while you can become a chevalier if you refuse, you will shunned by your comrades.

lol oh gtfo of it. There is a world of difference between murdering helpless civilians to gain status and for the sake of enjoyment and killing people because it is necessary, i dont recall the inq murdering people for pleasure, especially civilians. Lol DA shows us a lighter version of medival? 
all the things you mentioned are in DA lore, and many even worse than irl. The rapes, murder and oppression in the DA origin city elf story being one such example. I cant recall very many rpg video game lores that depict exploitation, racism and power abuse as realistically
and the fact that you think "realistic" knights like michel are sexy speaks volumes about you. It doesnt matter whether he is realistic or not, there is no excuse for his behavior.
