As long as it doesn't end in RED, BLUE, or GREEN I'm happy.
After that much backlash I won't be surprised if the entire ending is depicted exclusively in purples, yellows, and neon pinks to avoid any and all comparisons.

hmmm neon pink.....
After the criticisms of DA2's story, which I thought was an interesting experiment that didn't quite gel, I would expect DA:I's story to be pretty straight forward. Honestly, the only main story I felt was actually great was ME1 and it's still very cliche. Some of the reviews I have read also criticize DA:I's main story, saying it was too generic or lacking. That said, most reviews are rushed and only one I have read, can't remember the link, said DA:I is a game that asks you to take your time. That's welcome news, but it also may be a challenge.
You fool, that's the ending where the demons win.hmmm neon pink.....
oh, GameInformer? Ever since they published an interview with Anita "Gaming is a misogynist, male-dominated boys club" Sarkeesian, they've proven that they don't know what their audience is. Plus, they sell review scores
BW really can't win, they try something different in DA2 & its "not epic enough" so they go back to a Origins style story & it gets called "boring & clichéd"
Yes, Bioware can win.
All they have to is nail down the main story which has been primarily their greatest weakness.
You can have epic without cliched.

You do know why there aren't all that many original epic stories, right?
I don't really know games these days that do have any good main story at all and if there is story usually then game is pure sh*t ![]()
Witcher is one of games I like but lets be honest in here...put two and two together and there is no story in there at all.He is mutant that kills other monsters and that is it...everything else is just "We will bang Ok?"...I dare even saying that people only play it just to bang every female they see in their path.
Skyrim...you are Dragonborn and you main goal is to kill Alduin because he will destroy world?Classical and boring story...but Skyrim has side quests, open world and you can mess around just fine that is why is interesting...but main story is once again pure sh*t.
So pretty much all games these days have good story but sh*ty gameplay or they have excellent gameplay but sh*t main story.
And honestly I'm not huge "main-story junkie" I prefer messing around in game...and from what heard and saw DAI gives me massive open space, jump option,to go wherever hell I like without going 'linear' as in previous games, mounts finally, meet characters and have fun with them,to be pervert as well
,to shape my protagonist how I see fit(from noble hero to an a@@ to very awkward one as well)...put this all together and you will see that actually in here you are one that writes your own story
and hey isn't that the main point of RP to create a story in first place ![]()
DA2 was plenty epic. War on the verge of consuming the world, only Hawke can stop it!BW really can't win, they try something different in DA2 & its "not epic enough" so they go back to a Origins style story & it gets called "boring & clichéd"

Please don't bring that in here. Some of us disagree with your outlook. It gets ugly.
I didn't come in here to argue, just to point out that GameInformer is a rag, they sell scores, they support someone who made a living insulting their audience, and their opinions shouldn't hold weight. That's all I have to say on it. Unless anyone here fears a differing opinion, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to speak mine.

It may sound weird but I agree with you... Possibly a lot of "RPG elements" will prevent you from getting totally creative. Having many choices and being in open world may reduce the dramatic impact you will earn from the events and character's reactions. Letting a player to be whatever he/she wants may limit the internal/philosophical conflicts of the protagonists that we can immersively feel. Large-scale adventure/political conflicts may prevent a player from accessing a deep, emotional, personal, unpredictable or abstract stories.
Well, those limits can always be broken somehow, as long as the majority of player tastes lean more towards storytelling (while not going full "old school cRPG master race") in the first place, which I don't think so in recent years. The games that are fully story-rich must forgo some gameplay elements in order to properly market themselves as such and avoid some limitation of any particular gaming genre.
BTW, my favorite examples are all of Key's visual novels (which are hardly "games" ) and To The Moon (almost a visual novel). Planescape: Torment has toned down gameplay for the sake of storytelling. The Last of Us is a good evolutionary step I think. Final Fantasy in the past and other JRPGs also prove themselves that many western RPG elements (like open world/choices and consequences) are unnecessary for being good RPGs.
The problem is that CRPGs don't really facilitate deep, engaging storytelling well enough. One has to place gameplay over story, but for the story to be exceptional, gameplay concessions have to be made. Also, the dev team, ultimately, has to focus on one or the other. If the story really is lackluster, that's entirely fine. I only ever expected the plot to be serviceable. Just so long as it's fun and the characters are as good as they are to be expected in a Bioware game, it's entirely fine by me.
"...The only major disappointment is the central story arc. In concept, it sounds cool: The Inquisition is formed to close a demon-filled breach in the sky, unite the paralyzed power groups of Thedas, and stop an Elder One from taking over the world. However, when you actually reach those beats in the story, many of the would-be defining events feel abrupt or poorly explained. This would normally be a death knell for an RPG, but in this case, the main narrative is just one of the many stories woven into the experience."

Yes, I know the game is still very highly rated, I'm a devoted DA fan and will buy it for sure, but for a game where the main story is so important, it is somewhat upsetting that there are critics who openly dislike the main plot.
This is............stupid even for BSN standard.
Everybody can check all the review made in those 3 days(?) and see that some people liked the story some didn't, why?
Because it's subjective for **** sake.
Why are you seeking an absolute answer over a matter of taste question?
You do know why there aren't all that many original epic stories, right?
Define "epic"
If we mean epic in the high fantasy sense of LOTR and the Odyssey than yeah... I totally agree.
But I argue that a story can be epic in scope while being original and fresh.
Witcher 2 ( I hate using this game as an example but it's the one I'm playing right now) is a fascinating example of not being the standard epic but still refreshingly original.
Why aren't you posting individual threads about all the sites that thought the writing was great, OP?

Well, that is what an epic story is. Even then, LotR and The Odyssey aren't even all that original compared to each other. Both are about a person trying to get to a specific place(Frodo to Mount Doom, and Odysseus to his home), often being stalled by enemies.
It is just one reviewer. There are some other reviewers who commented that the story was compelling. It is a matter of taste.

Im so sick of DAO this and DAO that, many reviewers obviously havent played it in a long time and dont remember all the huge flaws it had. Ive been playing through kotor 1 and 2 in prep for DAI release and its reminded me what a true masterpiece can look like. The main plot and the ending sets a destination, but the journey through it is what counts the most. What i remember about Biowares games is the the writing, the characters and the opportunity to rp a character and see her grow. Man using force persuade is so intensily satisfying. There are so many cool ways to solve a situation, even though the alignment system in those games was more rigid, the way you solved quests and interacted with npcs offered far more variety than DAO. Its the same thing with KOTOR 2 which im playing through now, and ya i know it was developed by Obsidian, but its very similar in story telling style, though far more philosophical.
You took a direct shot at someone I happen to kinda respect. But alright, I won't argue your right to say it, I suppose.
I didn't insult her. She called all gamers misogynists. That is insulting. All I did was remarked on the idiocy of GameInformer to give press to a person who insulted their audience. Now, if you have more to say on the topic, I invite a cordial PM, but this isn't the place for this particular discussion.
