Well. you have Gascard Du Puis.
They are people putting on a french accent, so yes they will sound odd.

Eh. Orlesians mostly just sound obnoxious and grating to me. Some are okay, most aren't.

Well, I'm hoping they don't make them all have flamboyant french accents... because that's not how french usually sounds.
From the nobility it might make sense (I mean, they ARE better than us vulgar Marchers *grin*), but for the rest I would hope not. Because, yes, you can have a french accent and sound badass. ![]()

Orlais is based on France, so yes they will be voiced by French-sounding voice actors/actresses.

I'm not positive Mother Giselle is from Orlais, but her accent was atrocious. It was some terrible pseudo-French abomination with the typical comical overemphasis of the guttural 'r'. I was expecting her to spout out 'oh hon hon hon I like zee omelette du fromage and zee lower retirement ages!'' any second.

Yeah I don't find the Orlesian accent funny either. When Isolde was crying for her son, Conner, it just tore my heart up. Even on my evil, apathetic playthrough I still thought her voice helped in the performance and roleplay. And also all the ones in MotA were pretty normal, as in they didn't stand out in a peculiar/funny way. I only think they're funny when that's what the actor and the story is aiming for.

Hmm.. I haven't payed attention to which languages DAI is being localized to.
Is there a French version?
If so, what do they use for an Orlesian accent in that version?
I mean... it often seems like everyone hates the French. Makes sense they'd be used as an 'obnoxious' accent.
So... who do the French hate to use as an 'obnoxious' accent?

French people do not actually have obnoxious accents. In fact, their accent - just like their language - is lovely. Sadly, however, we North Americans (and maybe other English speakers around the globe) personify their accents with exaggeration, making their voices sound clown-ish and ridiculous. It's like the "black face" of voice acting and it needs to stop.

DAI has a french version, yes.
I don't know for DAI, but in previous games there is no "Orlesian accent". Actually, there is no accent differentiation at all, everyone speaks with a "plain" Parisian accent.

I prefer the original voices over the fench version, except for those grating caricatures.

I feel kind of bad calling the Orlesian accent funny because I know it's supposed to sound like a French Accent... Maybe it's because I haven't yet met a character that I take seriously who has an Orlesian accent. I loved Leliana's voice, but she was a character that I enjoyed because I got to know her. I think that might be the real reason for me.
